Finding a Spot for Personal Paperwork I've always tried to live life simply, so that I could live a fuller, happier life. One of the ways I've found to do this is to live in as small a space as possible. So, since I'm single, I opt for a studio apartment. It's actually a fun challenge to try to figure out how to make my tiny space as homey and organized as possible. While I'm great at paring things down and living with the essentials, organizing everything in sight, and making some cute decorations from reclaimed items for my apartment, what I've never been able to figure out until now is where to keep all my paperwork. See, I'm a freelancer, which means that I have a ton of paperwork to handle come tax time. And it's not like I can just store one year's worth of paperwork, either. I have to keep some documents for three years or more according to government regulations! So three or four years' worth of freelancing paperwork can really take up some unnecessary space in my apartment. I've tried putting that paperwork under the bed, in closets. I even once set up a file cabinet underneath the kitchen sink. Don't try that. It's too easy to get water damage! Despite all my creativity, I've never been able to find a suitable place that was large enough for the paperwork I needed to be able to store. So, I started checking out Cerritos Self Storage locations, and I found US Storage Centers. Part of my simple life is keeping my expenses down, so at first, I balked at the idea of using self storage unit to keep my paperwork in. It seemed like it would be just another expense to worry about. But the file situation was driving me nuts, and it would definitely be cheaper to get a small storage unit at the US Storage Centers Cerritos Self Storage location than it would be to upgrade to a one bedroom apartment with more room for storage! So, I decided to suck it up and talk to the manager about the storage options they had. What I found was surprising! The US Storage Centers Cerritos Self Storage location actually had some really small, really cheap storage units that would work great for storing my paperwork. I could fit a couple of file cabinets and still have room to spare. That was great, too! I was starting to look at buying some things in bulk and buying non-perishable items ahead when they were on sale, and having a storage unit meant I would be able to clean out the random stuff under my bed and in my hall closet so that I could use that space for canned goods and toilet paper, instead! |

Cerritos - Storing My Furniture During Deployment I decided to go into the military after my first year of college because I really needed the help paying for school. Plus, I just thought it would be a great experience. Sure, it was tough, but it was still something I'd thought about doing throughout my teenaged years. When it came to my first deployment, though, the problem was that I'd already moved out of home and gotten my own apartment, full of my own nice, new furniture. What was I going to do with all that stuff when I was overseas for a year? My parents offered to store some of my stuff in boxes in their garage, but they weren't going to have room to store all my furniture. So, I started checking out storage locations around town, and that's when I found the US Storage Centers Cerritos Self Storage location. It had great security and good prices, and the manager was very friendly and helpful. In fact, the manager was helpful enough to help me figure out what size unit I would need based on the type of furniture I described, and he told me how to pack it into a unit so that I wouldn't pay to rent more space than I actually needed. He also gave me some other storage tips to help keep my furniture in tip-top shape while it was in my Cerritos Self Storage unit. I was grateful for tips like these because I'd bought all my furniture new, and wanted to find it in great shape when I got home from my deployment: 1. Corner protection: I have a lot of furniture with sharp corners – like my coffee table, dresser, and a few pieces of artwork. The Cerritos Self Storage manager said the best way to protect the corners from chipping and hurting other furniture during a move and storage would be to use bubble wrap or cardboard corner protectors to keep them from damaging other pieces of furniture. 2. Break things down: When I went in to rent my Cerritos Self Storage unit, I thought for sure that I'd need a giant unit to put all my furniture in. During my description of the furniture, though, the manager asked which pieces could be broken down. Turns out that I saved enough space that I was able to get the next size down unit and save a ton of money just because I broke down my bed, kitchen table, and coffee table before putting them into storage. |
