Storing My Major Lawn Care Equipment

As a lawn care enthusiast, I make it my goal to have the best-looking yard and garden in Corona. The problem is that in order to have the best-looking lawn around, you need a lot of major equipment – the mower, the gardening equipment, and even the tiller I keep on hand to work the soil each spring. There's just not room in my garage for all this gear, which is why I use a Corona Self Storage unit at a place called US Storage Centers for my major lawn care equipment.

It took me a while to come up with the idea of storing my lawn care equipment at a Corona Self Storage unit. For the first few years I got into lawn care and gardening, I would just rent the equipment I needed. But that got to be a hassle, and rental fees are expensive and can be a little unpredictable. I decided I needed to go ahead and purchase my own equipment if I was going to be serious about caring for my lawn and garden. But buying my own equipment meant finding a place to put it all!

Luckily, I came across US Storage Centers, which is close to home and has some great deals on storage. After I talked with a manager there, I decided that a US Storage Centers Corona Self Storage unit would be the perfect option for my lawn care equipment. Basically, the self storage unit I rent there has become my second garage! There are lots of reasons why I chose the Corona Self Storage center by US Storage Centers in particular, and here are just a few of them:

Storing My Family's Tax Paperwork

Although I'm not a professional accountant, I'm always the one to file my own family's, my parents', and my brothers' tax returns. It's not a big deal, and my mom, dad, and brothers always take me out to dinner or something to pay for my time. They all have relatively simple returns, after all, so it's not like it takes all that long to do it.

The biggest problem, though, is that the paperwork required to do the returns somehow ends up flooding my home office well before tax season. In fact, my family will sometimes start bringing me tax-related paperwork and receipts months before April. That's a big issue, since my home office isn't nearly large enough to contain all that stuff!

So last year, in a quest to get my home office into shape and also to give everyone a place to keep their tax returns and the paperwork that goes with them after they're filed (you're supposed to keep that kind of stuff for a few years, after all!) I decided to find a Corona Self Storage location where the family could go in together for a self storage unit that would hold all of our tax paperwork.

The ideal unit for me would be close to my home, since I’m the one who does everything with the paperwork. It would be big enough for four small-ish file cabinets – one for each separate family I was doing taxes for. It would be secure and clean, and it would be easy for everyone else to access.

That's what I found when I checked out US Storage Centers Corona Self Storage. I didn't even tell the rest of the family I was going to be looking into self storage for all the paperwork until I'd checked out Corona Self Storage to see what it might cost. When I found out how affordable a small unit was, I was definitely sold. So, I called up my dad and brothers and suggested that we all go in together to purchase a year's worth of storage at a time. They even gave us a discount for paying for our storage rental that far in advance!

We decided it was a great idea and went in together to rent the storage unit from US Storage Centers Corona Self Storage. The next weekend, everyone went and bought file cabinets, which we labeled with the name of each family and popped into the storage unit.

Corona - Summer Furniture Storage During College

One of the things no one tells you about going away to a college like Riverside Community College is that you definitely won't want to haul all your stuff home every summer. It's especially true if you live in an apartment instead of a dorm room like I did. If you have a college dorm room, all your furniture is provided, for the most part, and it all stays in the room when you go. It's not a big deal to haul a few bags of clothes and boxes of books home with you every summer. But when you live in an apartment and have your own furniture, you really don't want to rent a truck to take your furniture home just so it can sit in your mom's garage taking up room for the entire summer.

Luckily for me, when I had this problem, a friend suggested I use US Storage Centers Corona Self Storage location. The Corona Self Storage location was close enough to campus, and it had great prices for summer long storage. Since they offered month to month leases and I didn't have to sign a long-term contract, I was able to afford to rent a small unit for my college apartment furniture for the summer.

I decided to take most of my other odds and ends home with me, so I would just need a unit big enough to store my apartment furniture in. Luckily, the manager at the Corona Self Storage location really knew what she was talking about and was able to give me advice on how best to store my furniture. Her advice not only told me how to save space in my Corona Self Storage unit so that I could rent a slightly smaller unit, but also told me how to keep my furniture in great shape while it was in storage.

Since I'd just gotten all my furniture new that year with my hard-earned waitressing money, I was really grateful for the advice! Here are the tips I followed to keep my furniture in tip-top shape while it was in my Corona Self Storage Unit:

1. Choose the right sized unit: I learned from the Corona Self Storage manager that a good manager can easily help you pick the right unit size based on what you need to store there. The perfect sized unit gives you enough room to store your furniture with a bit of space between it so that it can air out, but doesn't leave you paying for tons of extra space that you don't actually need.

2. Lay down pallets: One of the easiest and cheapest ways to protect furniture from potential water damage is to lay down packing pallets that will help keep the furniture off the floor. If a unit does leak or if the floor sweats when weather changes, the space between the furniture and the floor will keep your furniture from getting water damaged. You can pick up packing pallets for free from lots of stores, since they'll just throw them out or give them away.

Storing Baby Stuff in Corona

Getting Ready for Baby

When you don't have a lot of money to spare but still want to have a baby really badly, one of the best things you can do is take a bit of extra time planning for your baby. My husband and I did this. We knew if we waited until we were ready for a baby financially, we'd never have a little one of our own! So we decided to make ourselves ready. One way we did this was by taking a few months before we conceived to start gathering up baby stuff as cheaply as we could! We couldn't have done it without our Corona Self Storage unit at US Storage Centers, though. Here's what getting ready for our baby looked like for us.

We knew that we would need all the big baby stuff first, and we also knew of friends and family members who had paid a fortune for things like changing tables and cribs. We were pretty determined not to do this, so we started shopping around for used items well before we were ready for a baby. We found a changing table for $10 on Craigslist, and we bought a crib from Target on a huge sale around the holidays. They didn't match, but I’m pretty handy with some sandpaper and a can of paint!

Once we had found just those two big pieces, we were already running out of room in our small apartment. We had decided to stay in a one bedroom until we were about to have our baby so that we could save even more money on rent. Instead of trying to cram everything into our small apartment, we decided to check out Corona Self Storage locations that were close to our home. One of the first Dos Lagos Self Storage locations we found was US Storage Centers. We chose this location for our storage unit for several reasons.

For one thing, the storage unit was clean, dry, and secure. We weren't paying a fortune for baby things, but, still, it would have been frustrating if the things we stored were to get ruined or stolen. The unit was secured by a lock of our own and had an individually alarmed door, so we knew it would be safe from potential thieves and vandals. It also was dry and tidy, although the manager of the location told us it was a good idea to store our boxes and furniture on top of wooden pallets – in order to keep everything dry in case the concrete floor got "sweaty" during big weather changes.

Also, the US Storage Centers Dos Lagos Self Storage location was really affordable, which was obviously a big deal for us. Even with paying for storage for all the items we were buying, we were saving a bundle. Having a storage unit just gave us more room where we could put things, which let us get in on great deals as we found them without having to worry about where we were going to put everything before we moved into a larger apartment.

Storing My Fishing Gear

When you fish as often as I do, it's hard to part with all your fishing gear. Not too long ago, it wasn't a big problem. We had a big home with a large garage. I'm kind of a neat freak, so I had everything all organized in my garage – poles hanging on the wall, several tackle boxes all ready to go, etc. When we decided to downsize to a smaller condo, though, I wasn't really sure what to do with all my fishing gear. Luckily, I found a Corona Self Storage location called US Storage Centers, and that was the perfect solution for me.

Of course, part of the reason my wife and I downsized was financial. It was just a good idea to save money where we could since we're retired, and we didn't really need the extra space or the yard, since all the kids had moved out of the house at that point. So when my best friend suggested I find a storage unit for all my fishing gear, I was a little skeptical. If we were going to pay for storage every month, then how much would we really be saving in the long run?

But my wife and I decided to give it a shot, anyway. I wasn't by any means going to give up my fishing weekends, especially since I was retired and had more time than ever to actually go fishing! But, on the other hand, she didn't want to have to park her car outside of the condo's one-car garage because the garage was full of my fishing gear. And she definitely didn't want to give up one of the inside closets for my fish-smelling tackle and poles!

We looked around at a couple of different Dos Lagos Self Storage locations, but we were pleasantly surprised by the prices and atmosphere of US Storage Centers Corona Self Storage. The location was really convenient to our condo, and it was easy to access. Of course, since we were on a tight budget, pricing was one of the first things we looked at. With their specials and month-to-month lease options, the Corona Self Storage center by US Storage Centers was definitely a great solution for us.

My Self Storage Story - Corona

Storing My Stuff During a Life Transition

You know how you sometimes get to that point in life where you're moving from one place to the next but have no idea what you're going to do with everything you own in between? This happened to me in between apartments once, and a Corona Self Storage called US Storage Centers really came to my rescue.

You see, I wasn't moving all that far – just across town. I had taken a new job on the other side of town, and it was going to be way more efficient for me to move than to drive from my old apartment. So, I signed a new lease at a swanky new apartment complex, which was also a little more in line with my new job title and salary! The issue was that the lease on my old apartment was up at the end of June, and I couldn't move into my new one until August!

It was totally worth it to wait on the new apartment, though, since it had all the amenities and the location I wanted. Plus, I had friends in town that would let me stay with them when I was in between places. They even decided my cat could stay with me, too!

The problem was all my stuff. What was I going to do with all the kitchen odds and ends, the decorations, the television, my desktop computer, my mattress? There was way more stuff than I realized in my apartment, as is always the case when you're moving, so I decided I needed to check out Dos Lagos Self Storage options to see  if I could store everything I owned while I was making this transition.

A Corona Self Storage company call US Storage Centers was a great option for me in the long run. It was a public storage facility that offered very reasonably priced storage units. The manager at Corona Self Storage was great and helped me figure out exactly the size of unit I needed, which is really more difficult than you think. Who knew storage units came in so many different sizes and shapes? If I were left totally on my own, I probably would have rented way more storage space than I needed and ended up paying an arm and a leg more than I had to pay to get it!
