Storing Unused Gardening Equipment

As a Southern California gardener, I've got all sorts of gardening supplies and equipment for my year-round garden. Unlike in colder climates, here in SoCal, you can actually plant and harvest many things throughout the year. Because the gardening year for me is so varied, I don't use the same equipment throughout the year, and I keep any unused equipment in my Inglewood Self Storage unit at a place called US Storage Centers. The US Storage Centers Inglewood Self Storage option is great because it keeps my extra gardening equipment out of the way and gives me more room for the equipment and supplies I’m currently using.

The SoCal Gardening Year

It took me a while it get into a routine with my SoCal garden, but now every year moves in a nice rhythm. Here are some of the things I do throughout the year:

  • February: Plant onions and potatoes
  • March: Get out the tiller to add compost to the soil
  • April: Plan all sorts of vegetables and herbs
  • May: Plant chiles and melons
  • June: Harvest onions and potatoes
  • July: Harvest garlic
  • August: Harvest just about everything else
  • September: Plant more herbs
  • October: Harvest grapes for homemade wine
  • November: Plan wheat and harvest olives for olive oil

As you can see, that's a pretty busy and varied year. Some months are for harvesting, and others are for planting. And depending on what I'm planting and harvesting at any given time, I need different types of equipment to get the job done right. That's why I rely on my Inglewood Self Storage unit to give me extra space for storing the gardening equipment I'm not using at the time, so that I can have space for what I am using in my own garage.

Finding the Right Space

I started using an Inglewood Self Storage space for my gardening equipment several months ago when I was getting super frustrated at the state of my garage. Everything was in disarray, and there wasn't a whole lot to be done about the situation, simply because there wasn't enough room in the garage for everything. So that made me decide to check out alternative options for places to keep my off season gardening equipment.

I looked into several different storage locations before I settled on US Storage Centers Inglewood Self Storage. The location was great, since it was close to my home at the time, but there were other factors that made me choose that option, as well. That's obvious now, though, since I've moved further away from the Inglewood Self Storage location but have still kept that same storage unit I've had for a while.

One of the reasons I chose the Inglewood Self Storage location of US Storage Centers was actually that they had good customer service. Rather than just trying to upsell me into a larger unit because he could, the manager took the time to help me find the size of storage unit I actually needed, and he helped me make sure that the size would work well for me.

Storing My Old Tax Paperwork Away from Home

As a small business owner who works from home, I know that I have to be as responsible as possible when it comes to my tax paperwork. I'm always very conscientious about knowing exactly how long different pieces of tax paperwork have to be stored, and I always keep them that long. Since some pieces of paperwork have to be stored for seven years or more, it can really add up over time!

I've been in business now for more than twenty years, and one thing I've always done that has helped me stay more organized paperwork-wise is to store my business paperwork away from home at a place called US Storage Centers Inglewood Self Storage. The Inglewood Self Storage location is close to home, which makes it convenient for me to access, and it's also an affordable, easy way for me to keep my paperwork in proper order.

I landed on the idea of using an Inglewood Self Storage location for my business paperwork about five years into my home business. At that point, the business was big enough and I was meeting with enough clients that it was time to add an office onto our home. Since I was helping to care for my small children at the time, I didn't really want to have an office away from home. But my wife and I took out a small loan on our mortgage and added an office onto the back of the house.

Now the problem was that I didn't have a lot of room in my office. It was really just a comfortable space with a desk and a couple of chairs for meeting with clients. I had a small file cabinet in there. At the time, that was large enough to hold all the paperwork I had, but as I worked with more clients and gathered more tax paperwork, especially, this was not the case.

So about another year after I built the office, I decided that I had had enough of trying to find a place to put all that paperwork. We didn't want to make the office any bigger, so I started looking into other solutions. That's when I came across the idea of an Inglewood Self Storage unit. At a BBB meeting with other small local entrepreneurs, I found out that some of my friends also used off site storage for their paperwork, and they really loved it.

It's really cheap, they said. A lot cheaper than expanding your home or office, and it's really easy and secure.

Inglewood - Storing My Apartment Furniture During a Semester Abroad

I've known since I started college that I'd eventually want to take a semester abroad, but I never knew exactly when that would happen. Well, I finally had my chance last year. Since I was a senior, I'd been living in my own apartment off campus for a year, though, so I had to figure out what to do with all my furniture and stuff for that semester I went abroad. Luckily for me, a friend suggested I used an Inglewood Self Storage location called US Storage Centers, which turned out to be the perfect storage solution for my needs.

The Inglewood Self Storage center was close to my apartment, and it was easy to get to. They also had great prices on smaller self storage units, which was all I'd need since I didn't have that much furniture to begin with.

One thing that really sold me on the US Storage Centers Inglewood Self Storage location was how helpful the manager was. He took the time to talk about furniture storage with me, and helped me with tips and suggestions on how to get the most out of my storage space and how to protect my furniture so that it was in as good of shape when I took it out as it was when I put it in. I thought his furniture storage tips were awesome. Here's what he told me to do:

  • Watch the corners: The manager of the Inglewood Self Storage center said that the corners of dressers and other furniture like that are most prone to chipping and can harm other furniture. That's why he said it's a good idea to protect the corners with bubble wrap or cardboard corner protectors before you store that furniture.
  • Keep it off the floor: When the weather changes dramatically, the concrete floors of a storage unit can sweat, causing condensation that can cause damage to furniture sitting right on the floor. That's why you should put packing pallets underneath the furniture to allow for some air flow between it and the floor.
  • Cover the lamp shades: I have a couple of floor lamps for my apartment, and the Inglewood Self Storage manager said I should cover them in cotton to keep them free from dust. Cotton is better than plastic because it lets the shades breathe instead of potentially trapping moisture against them.

Storing Baby Stuff in Inglewood

Keeping Baby's Clothes

These days, it almost seems like financial suicide to have more than one kid, but my husband and I always knew we wanted multiples. That's why we decided to take some cost-saving measures. Nothing major. Just things our parents and grandparents had done before us to save money when it came to their children. One of the major things we decided to do was to save all of our first baby's clothes so they could be passed on to future children. The best way we knew to do this was to find an Inglewood Self Storage unit near our home where we could store all the clothes without having to pay a fortune.

Luckily, we came across an Inglewood Self Storage location called US Storage Centers. This storage location had everything we needed – secure units, easy access, and, of course, low prices. What's the point of saving baby clothes if you have to essentially pay for them all over again in order to store them? At any rate, when we came across US Storage Centers, we knew it was the place we'd been looking for to save our baby's clothes when she started to outgrow them – which happens so much faster than you'd even believe if you're a first time parent!

The US Storage Centers Inglewood Self Storage location was great because all the units were individually alarmed. Plus, the very clean facility was well-lit, and there were cameras everywhere. We knew that alone was enough to deter most would-be thieves from breaking into units. Not that anyone would make a fortune with a unit full of used baby clothes, but, still, we wanted to feel secure leaving all those clothes there.

Also, the Inglewood Self Storage location was easy to access. With our gate code and key, we could get in and out whenever we wanted to. Plus, we could send other people there if we needed to. They just needed our gate code and the key to our lock, which we were free to give out as we saw fit. This came in handy when grandparents were visiting with new babies and we'd forgotten to get the 0-3 month baby clothes out of storage ahead of time!

The main thing that drew us to the US Storage Centers Inglewood Self Storage location, though, was the fact that it was affordable. With their monthly specials for new leases, it was even cheaper than we'd thought it would be at first. Plus, the manager was kind enough to show us how we could stack boxes neatly in order to make the most of our space. We ended up needing a much smaller storage space than we'd originally thought we would need, and that, too, helped us save money. In the long run, our Inglewood Self Storage unit is a very cost effective way to take care of storing our baby's clothes for our future children.

Finding a Place for My Hiking Gear

When people ask what I'm going to do with my vacation time, the answer is always the same: I'm going backpacking. Since the first time I went on an extended backpacking trip in college, I've absolutely loved the entire backpacking experience, and I have slowly turned into a hiking and packing fanatic. Now, that's pretty much all I do with my vacations – except for the one around Christmas when my mother practically forces me to come home instead of traipsing off on some cold weather hiking trip. At any rate, you wouldn't know it, but backpacking comes with lots of gear, and when I needed a place to store that gear, I turned to an Inglewood Self Storage location called US Storage Centers.

Backpacking is all about packing light, right? So you would think I couldn't possibly have that much hiking gear to store that I would need an actual storage unit for it. The problem, though, is that you need different types of gear for different types of trips. I do it all – from summertime trail hiking to trekking trips to winter camping with day hiking – which means I have a ton of gear. I mean, there are a couple of different backpacks, sleeping bags in different weights, a tent I use once in a while on base camping trips, three different water purifiers, two different types of hiking stoves, and a whole bunch more gear.

After a few years of hiking and accumulating new and ever more specialized equipment, there just wasn't room for it in my studio apartment, anymore. I have some decent closet space for a studio, but, seriously, there are only so many places a girl can find to stash her hiking gear!

My mom made it pretty clear that I could store my hiking stuff at her house in my old bedroom, but this was really just out of the question. Not only is her house two hours away, but also, that would mean actually going home before and after every hiking trip – and that's time on the trail that I just don't have to waste!

So, instead of doing that, I just started looking at storage options in the Inglewood area. Luckily, I came across US Storage Centers Inglewood Self Storage. My first consideration for storage was that it be within my budget – which was pretty tight. There's a reason I live in a studio apartment, after all! All the extra money I make goes into savings so I can pull it out to get to great hiking locations around the country and to otherwise fund my hiking trips! Inglewood Self Storage had some great deals going on when I first rented my storage unit there, but their prices in general are great and affordable.

I only needed a small storage unit, but I also needed for it to be very accessible. Sometimes, I'll just decide at the last minute to take off on a day hike or a weekend trip nearby to my home, so I needed my Inglewood Self Storage unit to be easy to get to when I needed my hiking gear. The US Storage Centers option was great because I can get into my unit any time I want during gate hours. I have my own punch in code to access the unit and my own key for my lock, so I don't have to worry about anyone else being available in the office for me to get to my gear.

Storage While Building a New Home

Building a new home can be a stressful process, for sure, so when you figure out a way to make it less stressful, it's best to just go with it! When I was in the process of having my new home built, I was already itching to start packing up and sorting out the old home. Unfortunately, I didn't really have room to keep all those boxes while still living in my old home, and you know it always takes longer for the builder to get done with the new home than you expect! So, I looked into an Inglewood Self Storage location called US Storage Centers, and it was the perfect solution for me!

The Inglewood Self Storage location had reasonably priced storage units, and I just got a 5x10 unit. Since I wasn't selling my old home but was planning to rent, I didn't need to have absolutely everything out of it before I moved. I just needed enough space to move the boxes of odds and ends I was packing up as my new home was being built. The 5x10 size was just perfect for keeping boxes out of my way while I was in packing and moving mode!

The manager at the Inglewood Self Storage location was really nice, and she helped me figure out how to best use my storage space. Plus, the whole storage facility felt very safe and secure, since I needed to punch in a code to get in. I brought my own heavy-duty lock for extra security, since many of the things I was planning to store were really valuable – like my mother's antique dishes and such.

At any rate, the storage unit was an affordable option for me while my home was being built, and after my new home was built, it was really easy to slowly move my stored items into my new home. I just loved how I didn't feel rushed to get everything unpacked immediately, since I could just move a few boxes at a time!
