Seasonal Self Storage for My Back Yard

While lots of people use self storage units for long-term storage of thing like family keepsakes, I actually use self storage on a seasonal basis. I mean, I rent a self storage unit year-round, but I actually use it for different things at different times of the year. Over the past couple of years, I've found that my LaCrescenta Self Storage unit from US Storage Centers has been invaluable to me, especially when it comes to keeping my back yard well maintained without having an overcrowded garage.

When you first become a homeowner with a back yard, it's easy to get overwhelmed in all the stuff you end up getting for your yard. When I bought my home three years ago, I ended up with a mower, gardening equipment, and even a set of great lawn furniture I found at an end of season discount. All that stuff was great, but I really didn't have a place for it when it wasn't in use at the time.

The problem became really apparent during the rainy winter season that year, when I didn't really want my lawn furniture to sit outside getting all gross. I wanted to move it indoors somewhere, but I didn't have anywhere in my house or garage to put it! So what was I going to do with all that lawn furniture? That's when I decided to check out different options in the LaCrescenta Self Storage market.

The first couple of places I looked at weren't impressive, but once I got to US Storage Centers LaCrescenta Self Storage location, I knew I had found the self storage location that would be perfect for me as I got even more lawn and garden supplies over my next few years of homeownership.

I rented an affordable mid-sized LaCrescenta Self Storage unit the very weekend I went to US Storage Centers because I was so impressed with their customer service and prices. I figured the mid-sized unit would give me plenty of space to work with, and it was definitely an affordable option for my budget. I moved my lawn furniture into the unit right away, since it was getting to be too rainy outside to enjoy many days on the back porch, anyway.

I Recommend My Clients Store Tax Paperwork Off Site

As an accountant, I see tons of clients every year who struggle to get their tax paperwork together, and then struggle to figure out where to put it when their taxes are finished. My business clients have years' worth of tax paperwork to deal with, and when they're running a small business space for storage is at a premium. That's why I recommend that most of my micro and small business customers, and even some of my customers who work at regular jobs but come to me to do their taxes each year, store their tax paperwork off side at US Storage Centers LaCrescenta Self Storage.

There are several reasons that I recommend for my clients to take advantage of off site paperwork storage options for tax paperwork, and a few reasons that I recommend US Storage Centers LaCrescenta Self Storage location, in particular. Here's what it's all about:

Off Site Storage Frees Up More Space for Less

With most of my business clients, like I said, space is at an absolute premium. They're usually stretched to the end of their monthly budgets to try to make their expenses for the space they're currently in, especially when the business is just starting out. Even more established businesses who have the money to pay for a larger suite of offices don't really want to unless they need to, since the extra expense would just cut into their bottom line.

The great part about off site storage for tax and other paperwork is that it's quite affordable. It's much cheaper to rent a small storage unit to house a few filing cabinets than it is to rent a larger office complex just for the extra space to store files. If your business is growing enough that you actually need more space for other workers or whatever, then, sure, go ahead and rent a bigger place. But don't put all that money into renting a larger work space just so that you'll have someplace to put your paperwork! There are definitely better, cheaper solutions than that!

Off Site Storage Often Leads to Better Organization

Besides this, there's this temptation, even in well-run businesses, to just leave paperwork in piles to be sorted sometime later on. Well, the issue is that the sometime later on is usually right before taxes need doing. You'd be amazed at how many man hours businesses waste trying to get their paperwork together for taxes, when they could have had everything sorted and ready to go to begin with.

Since business owners and managers who use off site storage for their paperwork are likely to only go to the storage unit once every week or two, there is less temptation to let things get out of hand. Business owners usually keep one small file cabinet or box where paperwork that's currently needed or coming in goes. Then whoever is assigned to file the paperwork will run it over to the storage unit every once in a while. It's much easier to file a week's worth of paperwork than it is to sort and file paperwork from the entire business year!

LaCrescenta - Self Storage and Selling My Furniture

Selling furniture can take a while, but it's something I've wanted to do ever since I decided to get a new dining room set. I've had my old one for quite a while now, so it seemed like time to get a new one a few months ago. Plus, I want to repaint the dining room, which means I needed furniture that would go well with my new look.

My original plan was to list my old furniture and wait for it to sell before I picked out new furniture. That went out the window a month ago when I found the exact furniture I had in mind on a fantastic sale that I just couldn't pass up. I even put part of the purchase on a credit card, knowing I'd pay it off when I sold my old furniture – which was still worth several hundred dollars!

At any rate, I had to figure out what to do with my old furniture now that I already had a new set. My mom suggested that I put my old furniture into a LaCrescenta Self Storage unit nearby my home. At first, I was a little skeptical. I mean, surely having my furniture in a LaCrescenta Self Storage unit would make it harder to sell. How would I show potential buyers the furniture?

But I went to check it out, anyway. I found the US Storage Centers LaCrescenta Self Storage Location the next day, and I was really pleased by what I found. They had great prices and good security. Plus, I could get into my unit practically any time, so I could show it to potential buyers at their convenience. In fact, I was more comfortable selling the furniture out of a LaCrescenta Self Storage unit, anyway, because that meant I wouldn't have to invite people to my home to look at the dining set!

The other thing that sold me on the US Storage Centers LaCrescenta Self Storage location was that the manager was really friendly and even gave me some great tips to make storing the furniture easier and safer. Here's what he said:

  • Protect from moisture: There are a bunch of different steps you can take to protect your furniture from moisture while you're storing it. Even though the LaCrescenta Self Storage location manager assured me that the units there were regularly inspected for water problems and are as water tight as they come, he said there is still a possibility of moisture damage, especially if it gets humid in units that aren't climate controlled.

Luckily, protecting from moisture isn't that difficult. You just have to put your furniture up on wooden packing pallets to get some air flow between them and the floor. You also need to put stuff in the unit with a bit of space between items, so that they can dry out if the air ever does get pretty moist. Also, the unit manager said that it's a good idea to cover items in cloth blankets or soft drop cloths rather than plastic, since that allows for good air flow and can protect from mold and odors.

Storing Baby Stuff in LaCrescenta

How Paying for Storage Makes Me More Frugal

I always used to think that people who paid month in and month out for self storage units were either rich or a little bit crazy. After all, if you have too much junk to keep it all in your home, you should probably get rid of some stuff, right? Why pay to keep stuff that you never see, anyway? Well, I held on to this way of thinking until a couple of years ago, when I rented my first storage unit at a LaCrescenta Self Storage location called US Storage Centers. Why did I give in and rent storage, you ask? Well, I did it because in the long run, having a LaCrescenta Self Storage unit makes me more – not less – frugal!

The reason I rented a LaCrescenta Self Storage unit is because I was pregnant. As a single mom, I knew I'd need to be prepared for all the upcoming expenses that go along with having a baby. Another very frugal friend of mine suggested that one of the best ways to do this would be to shop at garage sales and deep discount store sales for my baby's clothes. The problem with doing this, she admitted, was that you have to shop way in advance because you never know what you can find. It's not like shopping at a super store, she said, where you can walk in and pull a season's worth of clothes off the racks in no time flat.

Since my baby and I would be sharing my small one bedroom apartment for the foreseeable future, my friend suggested I check out storage units so I could store the things I bought for the baby ahead of time. At first, I balked at the idea of getting a LaCrescenta Self Storage unit. After all, I'd always been one to make fun of people who were frivolous enough to own that much stuff that they needed a storage unit!

When I looked into the cost of a LaCrescenta Self Storage unit through US Storage Centers, though, I found that it made sense. After all, by garage sale and store sale shopping for my baby's clothes and toys, I'd probably save thousands of dollars in the long run. I couldn't do that kind of shopping, though, without a place to put everything for months or years before it was time to use it. The cost of a small storage unit was actually significantly cheaper than the cost difference for a bigger apartment that would have given me storage space in my home, so I decided to rent a LaCrescenta Self Storage unit, after all.

Storing Our Little League Gear

In our family of four boys, Little League has been a way of life for over a decade. All my boys love to play baseball, and Little League is just something that we do every single spring. Until you have kids in Little League, though, you just don't realize how much stuff is involved in the whole Little League venture! Between the helmets, bats, bat bags, uniforms, and, not to mention, all the coolers, chairs, blankets, umbrellas, and stuff we cart to every single game, there's just really a lot of stuff to deal with! That's why we make our lives a little easier and use a LaCrescenta Self Storage unit by US Storage Centers to store all our gear in the off season.

We first came across the idea of using a LaCrescenta Self Storage unit during the off season for Little League gear when our second son started playing ball. At the end of that season, we just had so much stuff and nowhere to put it in our home or garage where it wouldn't absolutely be in the way. My husband suggested we check out storage units in the area; he was kind of joking, but I decided that it was worth a shot. Anything was better than tripping over Bobby's bat or Josh's cleats every time I walked through the garage or mud room!

I called around, and I found US Storage Centers LaCrescenta Self Storage. It was really close to our house, and I got some of the rates on the phone. It was pretty affordable, especially since we only needed a small closet-sized unit. The manager talked to me about all the advantages of the storage unit – like the fact that we could access it during the extended gate hours whenever we needed to and the fact that we could rent on a month-to-month lease.

I'd already thought about the month-to-month lease thing. Baseball season lasted about three months out of the year at our house. Even though the LaCrescenta Self Storage unit was close to our house and was easy to access, I knew, being the mom, that it would be easier to just have the baseball stuff around the house for those three months of the year, instead of trying to keep everything in storage and keep getting it out and putting it back before and after every game and practice. So the fact that we could rent a LaCrescenta Self Storage unit for nine months of the year and then save that money during actual baseball season was really great.

Plus, the units were pretty secure, with individually alarmed doors and locks that we could choose from. That made me feel great, since we had invested a small fortune in Little League gear already – before our youngest two sons were even old enough to play!

So, I convinced my husband that I was serious about the LaCrescenta Self Storage unit option, and we decided to go ahead and rent a unit after the Little League season was over one year. For the first two years, we just used it for the nine months when baseball was off. It was amazing to have all that baseball gear out of our home and to be able to actually park in the garage because all the miscellaneous gear wasn't in the way!

My Self Storage Story - LaCrescenta

Storing My Favorite Toy

My wife calls my motorcycle my "midlife-crisis-mobile." Maybe she's right, but, at any rate, I've always wanted a motorcycle, and I jumped at the chance to finally own one when it came up. It's really a great machine, and it's amazing to be able to take it out on the weekends to cruise wherever I want to go – I should say wherever we want to go, since my wife rides with me all the time, regardless of the fact that she makes fun of my new toy! The problem when we got the motorcycle, though, was that we didn't have room for it in our garage, and I sure wasn't leaving it parked in the driveway, either! Luckily, I found a LaCrescenta Self Storage location called US Storage Centers.

At US Storage Centers La Crescenta Self Storage, I can get a really affordable unit that's just big enough for my motorcycle and a couple of odd boxes that my wife didn't have anywhere else to store. The unit is a ground-floor unit, so I can park my car at the front of the facility, walk back to my motorcycle, and take off for the day. At the end of the day, I just come back, park my new favorite toy, and drive away in my car. It's like having my own garage, except that it's about a ten minute drive from my actual house!

I knew some friends who had once had motorcycles stored in storage units, but I knew that LaCrescenta Self Storage by US Storage Centers was the location for me for a few reasons. Here's what made me choose this location for storing my precious motorcycle:

  • The manager was friendly. I know it doesn't seem like much, but, seriously, that was what drew me to the place in the first place. I stopped by to talk about storage unit sizes and prices, and we got to talking about my motorcycle. Now that I've been renting a unit with LaCrescenta Self Storage for a few months, he knows my car, and will wave hello if I stop by to get my motorcycle when he's out on the grounds. It just makes me feel more secure knowing that there's someone around who actually cares about me as a customer and is interested in my motorcycle, since he's the one who's always on site to make sure nothing goes wrong!

LaCrescenta Storage - Bigger Garage

LaCrescenta Storage

Your garage can be your sanctuary outside of your house.
