Self Storage for My Seasonal Lawn Care Equipment

If you don't live in SoCal, you may not realize that we actually do have seasons here. But if you're a gardener in the area, you realize more than every how distinct the seasons can be. One of the ways that I realized this, actually, was simply by starting to garden. As just your average Joe walking down the street, I might pull out a jacket at certain times of the year, but nothing much changed with the seasons. I mean, we don't get feet and feet of snow or anything.

However, as a gardener, I realize how different the seasons are by the lawn and garden equipment I'm using during each month of the year. Sometimes, watering my new plants is vital, and at other times, I'm just harvesting everything in sight.

Like in most other places, different seasons and different gardening actions call for different tools. This is all well and good if you have a place to keep a ton of gardening tools, but it's not great if you don’t have lots of extra space. Between my fishing gear and car care supplies and basic garage stuff in my garage, there's just not room for my lawn and garden care equipment.

That's why for the past couple of years, I've used a Marina Del Rey Self Storage unit at US Storage Centers as a place to keep my lawn and garden equipment that isn't immediately useful to me.

I first thought of using a Marina Del Rey Self Storage unit three years ago when I was getting overwhelmed with all the junk in my garage. No matter how I tried to whittle it all down, everything seemed to me to be essential, so I could never fix the situation that much. Sure, organizing it helps a little, but there's still too much stuff for too little space.

Well, I didn't do anything about it until two summers ago when I decided enough was enough. Then I started seriously looking at Marina Del Rey Self Storage locations and came across US Storage Centers. This particular Marina Del Rey Self Storage location was close to home, but it had a lot more going for it than that! There are lots of reason I chose US Storage Centers to basically be my away from home garden shed. Here are a few of those reasons:

Security: My home is relatively secure because I’m just that way. The doors and the garage door are all rigged with alarms and such. I just like for my things to be protected, and that's just how I've always been, really. So when I was looking for Marina Del Rey Self Storage units, one thing I was looking for was a unit that would be secure.

Storing Our Business Files Off Site

Running a mid-sized business has always been my dream. I mean, I always wanted to be an entrepreneur but never really wanted to build a huge conglomerate. I want to know my customers and my employees, not just be some faceless CEO, you know? At any rate, midsize business is about where I'm at right now, and I've learned lots of lessons along the way to this spot. One of those lessons was figuring out how to keep old files and records without having them get in the way. My solution: a Marina Del Rey Self Storage unit.

That's right. At my business, we take all of the old file storage off site to a self storage unit. There are several reasons I do it this way. Here's why I started using US Storage Centers Marina Del Rey Self Storage:

Efficiency

First off, I really just think it's more efficient to only keep the things in my office building that I actually need in my office building. What I don't need are the articles of incorporation or the tax return forms that are six years old. I just don't need to have to deal with finding a place to put all that and rearranging that place whenever I hire someone and need another office or something.

It's just been much more efficient to store our files off site at our Marina Del Rey Self Storage unit. It's especially efficient around tax time, when I can just box up all the paperwork from the taxes and take a box marked with the year to the Marina Del Rey Self Storage unit. It can sit there for a decade until it's finally time to destroy the stuff, and then I can just get rid of it.

For the first few years I was in business, I would actually store all the old tax stuff in our place of business. It was just annoying to have to shuffle it around every few months. Things change so quickly here that we end up needing to use the space we have available for other things, so it was important to me to be able to move things around faster by getting the boxes of files out of the office.

Marina Del Rey – Storing My Things During a Semester Internship

When I got the chance to go to DC for a semester internship in politics, I was elated. The internship was a combination of classes and real world experience that would net me some credits for my Antioch degree and that would look great on my future resume. I couldn't wait to go! The problem was that someone would be taking my room in the house where I roomed with three other girls, and I had to get all my stuff out. I really didn't have time to take it halfway across the country to get it home before my internship, so I decided to just put it into Marina Del Rey Self Storage at a location called US Storage Centers.

I came across the Marina Del Rey Self Storage location one day when I was just driving by, and it sparked the idea of just leaving my stuff in storage. I thought it would be expensive, though, so I wasn't sure I could swing it. I am a poor college student, after all!

But when I went to talk to the Marina Del Rey Self Storage manager, I found out that their prices are surprisingly affordable. Plus, the manager gave me some great tips on how to pack my furniture into the storage unit that would save me a ton of space. For instance, he told me to break down my bed so it wouldn't take up as much room. It seems obvious now, but then, I had no idea that it was an important thing to do to conserve storage space!

Anyway, I ended up taking out a lease for a small self storage unit. I got a good deal on the first couple of months' worth of rent, which was nice because I actually would only need the unit for three months. At first I was worried that renting a Marina Del Rey Self Storage unit would be like renting an apartment, where you have to sign a lease for a certain number of months at a time. That's not how it was at all, though. The unit was on a month to month lease, so whenever I needed to get out of the contract, I could – just as long as the month we were currently on was paid for! It was a pretty sweet deal.

So, I got my friends to help me pack up my furniture and the few other belongings I wouldn't be taking to DC with me, and I took them over to my new Marina Del Rey Self Storage unit by US Storage Centers.

Storing Baby Stuff in Marina Del Rey

Saving the Girls' Stuff

I always crack up when I look at the year's latest estimates on the cost of raising kids. Sure, there are things like college expenses and medical co pays that you can't get around, but, seriously, who needs to spend $1000 on a nursery set for every kid? And who spends almost $1000 a year on cloths for every kid, too? Not my husband and I! We decided early on that it was more important for me to be able to work part-time and spend time with our kids than it was to have the coolest nursery, the latest stroller, or the cutest new baby clothes! That's why we buy lots of things secondhand and also use our Marina Del Rey Self Storage unit to store things in between kids so that we can hand them down to the next kid.

To us, it just makes sense. Why not get out of paying for things your kids need when you can? I mean, I'm not going to dress my infant in spit up and poop stained clothes – that's just gross. Likewise, I’m not going to use an outdated, unsafe car seat. However, I am going to save my first daughter's gently used clothes that are still in good shape, and I'm certainly not going to toss out that year-old car seat that will still meet safety standards in two years when I have my next baby!

Of course, the issue with keeping things to hand down from one kid to the next is finding a place to put it all. Since my parents had a Marina Del Rey Self Storage unit that they used for lots of their off-season items and camping gear, we knew about the US Storage Centers Marina Del Rey Self Storage location. We decided that it would be a good option for us to store our daughter's things as soon as she started to outgrow them.

We first rented our Marina Del Rey Self Storage unit when our daughter was about six months old. At that point, she had outgrown her newborn and 0-3 month sized clothes, as well as her bouncer seat, swing, and one of her play mats. She had also outgrown lots of her infant toys, and we wanted to put all that stuff into storage. We headed straight to the US Storage Centers Marina Del Rey Self Storage location, and we got a great deal on a small storage unit that was the perfect size for keeping our daughter's gear until we had another baby.

All Our Hiking Equipment in One Place

Ever since I met my fiancé, we've gotten more and more into hiking. We originally met on a group hike that a bunch of mutual friends invited us to, and, really, the rest is history. We always like to say that we fell in love with each other and with hiking over that weekend-long hike with friends! As we started spending more time together and taking more hiking trips, we, of course, got a little obsessed with gathering up hiking equipment. Now, we have a ton of different equipment, and until recently, it was absolutely overtaking both our apartments! Luckily, we found US Storage Centers Marina Del Rey Self Storage to be the perfect solution!

At first, it wasn't that big of a deal that we had a lot of hiking equipment between the two of us. We were living in separate apartments, and between the two of us, there was enough space to store everything. However, when we got engaged and were ready to move into my apartment together, we kind of ran into a problem. Sure, when we combined households we could just get rid of a lot of the things we had in duplicates – toasters, microwaves, couches, and the like. But since we'd bought most of our hiking equipment together, there wasn't really anything we were willing to get rid of.

What were we supposed to do with it all? I mean, seriously, what one bedroom apartment has room enough for two framed hiking packs, a tent, two sleeping bags, and all the other sundry items that come with a couple of serious hikers? Mine certainly didn't have the space for it all!

When we were looking for solutions, my mom suggested we check out storage units. At first, we were a little reluctant. After all, part of the point of moving in together was to save money for our wedding, and it seemed silly if we had to start shelling out more money for a storage unit. But we decided it was either that or store our hiking gear at my mom's house and hour away, which would have really been a huge hassle.

So, we started looking for Marina Del Rey Self Storage locations, and we came across the US Storage Centers Marina Del Rey Storage Center. It was a great solution for us for a few reasons. For one thing, it was way cheaper than we thought, especially after the manager let us in on some storage secrets that helped us figure out we needed a smaller unit than we'd originally planned on getting. Plus, the Marina Del Rey Self Storage location was running a special for first-time renters, so we got to save even more money from the get-go. That was especially nice since this was all in the month when my fiancé was moving into my apartment, and, as you probably know, moving comes with a whole set of its own expenses!

My Self Storage Story - Marina Del Rey

The Day Our House Almost Burned Down

You hear stories, lots of times, about how awful things can happen so easily, but you never think that those awful things will happen to you. Well, I know now that I'm not immune, by any means, to the terrible things that can happen to people during their lives! I learned that when my family's home almost burned down a few months ago. It was an electrical fire, they said, but, regardless, it took our entire kitchen and living room with it! Everyone got out safely – even our dog and cat! – but it was still the scariest thing that's ever happened to us, and we wouldn't have been able to get through it without practical support from unexpected places, like a Marina Del Rey Self Storage facility called US Storage Centers!

When you think about people's homes burning down, you tend to assume that they lose everything in the fire. This is actually not always true, though. In fact, we learned from our fire department that many, many fires in our area are put out before they can devour and entire home. The problem, though, is that once the fire is put out, tons of the things in your home are damaged by either fire, smoke, or the water that was used to put out the fire. One of the biggest hassles of a large home fire is having to sort through everything to see what was damaged and what is still usable!

The first thing we did the morning after our house almost burnt down was to call our home insurance company. Our insurance agent was helpful and recommended that we find a place to stay and a place to store our unharmed items for the time being. The insurance company would, of course, pay for most of the expenses related to the fire, including a storage unit at a Marina Del Rey Self Storage facility.

We called around, and we found some of the best possible rates at a Marina Del Rey Self Storage facility, which was really close to our home, anyway. The manager of the US Storage Centers Marina Del Rey Self Storage facility was great, and he had dealt with other families in similar situations before. He helped us rent the right size unit – just a 10x10 because most of our furniture was either burnt to a crisp or too smoke and water damaged to save! He also helped us get the right packing supplies so we could put things away that were still worth saving.
