Finding the Extra Space

Finding enough space to store all of your stuff when you have five people living in a three-bedroom home is never easy. I mean, we try not to keep too much junk around that we don't need, but there's always something – the kids' keepsake items, off-season clothes, Christmas decorations. We don't have much extra space in our home, and we don't even have an attic or a basement, so we decided to check out Palmdale Self Storage options to free up some space in our home without having to get rid of all the extra things we used once in a while.

When we were looking at Palmdale Self Storage, we knew what we wanted. We needed a location that was close to our home so we'd be able to access our things when we needed to. We also needed to be sure our items were secure. We weren't storing anything terribly valuable to anyone else, but many of the things in our storage unit were family keepsakes, and we didn't want anything to happen to them. Of course, we were also looking for a good price, since we didn't want to pay a fortune just for a bit of extra storage for our home!

It was just a few minutes from home, and the individual unit alarms and on-site manager made us feel like our things would be secure. Plus, the small closet-sized storage unit was super affordable, especially since there were long-term rates available. We planned to keep our extra storage for a while, so we went ahead and paid for several months in advance. We signed up for our Palmdale Self Storage unit right away.

I can't tell you what a relief it was to finally be able to get some of those things out of our random closets and out from underneath our beds. I kind of went on a packing frenzy the weekend after we signed up for our unit, and I packed up pretty much everything that we only used a couple times a year. Of course, in the process, I sorted all the closets to get rid of old clothes and toys, too!

In the end, we didn't quite pack out our small storage unit. It was actually nice to have a bit more space than we needed, though, because now when we go to find something in the unit, we can easily rearrange the boxes to get to what we need.

One thing we've certainly learned from using our Palmdale Self Storage unit, though, is that it's imperative to actually label everything correctly. Some of our boxes were slightly mislabeled, which made pulling out my winter boots a pain. Now, everything is properly labeled and put away in the exact box, and some of our boxes are even color coded. For instance, we invested in some green and red plastic tubs for the Christmas decorations. Who wants to spend hours sorting through boxes during that busy season of the year?

Another thing we learned from the manager at US Storage Centers Palmdale Self Storage is that we should put wooden pallets on the bottom of our storage floor so that things don't get wet. The storage units definitely don't leak; they're too nice for that. However, concrete can sweat when the weather changes dramatically, and that little bit of condensation can make for a great big mess if it's got cardboard boxes sitting right on top of it, since they'll just soak it all up and get water all over everything!

In the end, our Palmdale Self Storage unit was definitely a good choice for our family. Some people think we're a little crazy for paying for a Palmdale Storage unit month after month, but I say it's actually cheaper than getting a bigger home that has room for all our stuff! Eventually, we might be able to add on to our home, but with storage as convenient as this, who needs to? It's really been worth the cost for us because of how nice it is not to have to keep all that extra stuff in our own home, and it's been so nice to actually have a bit of extra space in our home. The closets aren't so crammed, and the kids actually have room to put their toys away since their rooms aren't packed with things they aren't even using at the moment!
