Clearing Out Garage Space for Lawn Care Tools

In the past, I've hired a service for taking care of the lawn in our Pomona house, but this summer, I decided that I wanted to take care of our lawn myself, since I'm cutting back on my hours at work. So, I started to research options for a lawn mower and other equipment and supplies. The problem, my wife pointed out, was that we didn't even have room in the garage to park our car – let alone a place to keep a lawn mower and a weed eater!

Like many couples, we'd collected a lot of stuff over the years, but I knew that even if we cleared out all the stuff we could easily throw away, our garage would still be too crowded for lawn care equipment! So we decided to check out self storage options in Pomona so that we could clean out our garage in order to fit our lawn care supplies in the garage.

After a bit of research, we decided to go with US Storage Centers Pomona Self Storage location. The Pomona Self Storage location is close to our home, which is helpful, and it's easy to get to from our house, which is great. But there are a few other reasons we chose this particular self storage location, including the following:

Price: This was definitely part of our considerations. Part of the reason I wanted to do our own lawn care this summer was that I want to save money. We were paying someone weekly to come trim the grass and do other lawn care, and I didn't want to pay that much any more. Obviously, storage and a lawn mower were going to cost some money over the summer, but at least they would be cheaper than hiring a full lawn service!

So I really loved that the US Storage Centers Pomona Self Storage location had low prices on their units. The low prices of the units meant that they were well within our budget. Plus, it's surprising how much you can put in a storage unit. The manager of the Pomona Self Storage location gave me some great tips on how to fit more stuff into a unit, which really helped us make the most of the space. Because of that, we were able to get a smaller unit that we had originally thought we would need, which made the price even cheaper!

Security: Another reason that I like the US Storage Centers Pomona Self Storage location was the security. Although I don't have anything overly valuable in the storage unit, I do have a few collectibles and such in there. It was important that the storage location I chose have at least some decent security.

Self Storage for Our Business Paperwork

My husband and I started our own home business three years ago. It had always been a dream of ours to work from home doing woodworking, since he likes the carpentry aspect and I love the decorating aspect. We finally got the chance to take the leap when he lost his job, and we've never looked back since. Sure, there's been a steep learning curve, and it's been difficult to make it work financially at times, but we've succeeded in developing our business into something we can be proud of.

One thing that we both had trouble with in starting our business, being creative types, was all the paperwork. There are seriously mounds of it. Paperwork for the creation of the business. Paperwork for the loans. Paperwork for the taxes. So much paperwork that I felt like it was coming out of our ears!

Since I'm slightly more organized than my husband (On a scale of one to ten, he's a one and I'm a three, maybe), I got stuck with the job of working with and organizing all our business paperwork. It was a little ridiculous to begin with, especially considering that we didn't have room in either our home office or our workspace to store all that paperwork.

About a year into the business building process, I finally found a paperwork organization solution that works for me: Pomona Self Storage.

Not many business owners think of using someplace like a self storage unit for keeping and organizing their paperwork, but for us, it has worked wonders! I thought of the idea when talking with a friend who keeps some of her personal documents and such in a self storage unit so that she doesn't have to find space for them in her home.

When I thought about how that could possibly work well for our business, I decided to give it a shot and to find a self storage location that would work well for us. That's when I came across US Storage Centers Pomona Self Storage.

The location was perfect, since it was close to our home, and the prices were unbelievable. We didn't need a large storage unit, and one thing that I loved most about the US Storage Centers Pomona Self Storage location was that they offered smaller storage units that were well within our price range. The smaller units didn't cost much at all, and as a new business, we really needed to keep our expenses down.

We had actually looked at renting a workspace away from home, which would have given us more room for storage of things like our business documents. But the Pomona Self Storage unit rental was much, much cheaper than that!

Pomona – Storing My Stuff While Backpacking Europe

I've dreamed about backpacking through Europe since I was just a kid, so when I finally got the chance, I jumped at it. It meant taking an extended leave of absence from my job, and it meant giving up my apartment for a while. It was totally going to be worth it, though! Before I could leave, though, I needed to figure out what to do with all the furniture in my apartment. I happened upon US Storage Centers Pomona Self Storage one day when I was driving around town, and I decided that it would be a good solution for me.

So, I went in to check out the prices and such. I was really impressed with how clean and secure the facility was. Being gone for eight months meant I needed to make sure my things would be very secure in storage, as I didn't want to spend my entire backpacking trip worrying about the furniture and other items I'd left in storage! I even got to pick up my own lock to put on the unit, so I chose one you'd have to saw through because a bolt cutter couldn't get through it!

One of the best things about the Pomona Self Storage location was that the manager was not only helpful but also knowledgeable about storage in general. You don't really think about it much, but putting items in storage is totally different from arranging them in your climate controlled apartment. I was really glad the manager of the self storage location was able to give me some great tips like these that would help my furniture stay in tip top shape while I was in Europe:

1. Get it off the ground. Have you ever noticed that a concrete garage floor can feel damp when the weather changes? Concrete tends to sweat during dramatic weather changes. Plus, you never know if water will happen to get into your unit, even though those at the US Storage Centers Pomona Self Storage location are as watertight as possible. The best way to protect furniture from leaching up water and becoming damaged is to get the furniture off the ground with either boards or packing pallets.

2. Leave some space. I had been pinching pennies for more than two years to be able to save up enough for my European backpacking trip, so I obviously wanted to be as economical as possible when it came to paying for a storage unit. The thing is that when it comes to storage, the smaller your unit is, the more economical it is.

So I figured I would just pretty much pile all the furniture in there and hope for the best. The manager of the Pomona Self Storage location, though, showed me that it was actually a better idea to get a unit with just a bit more space. If the furniture is touching the wall and every piece is touching every other piece, the furniture can't dry out when the air is humid, which means mold and mildew can grow. It's cheaper in the long run to get a unit that's big enough to leave just a bit of wiggle room on the sides of the unit and in between the furnishings, instead.

Storing Baby Stuff in Pomona

Getting Rid of Stuff Before Our Baby

When we got pregnant unexpectedly last year, we were excited but a little apprehensive, too. Plus, we knew there was no way on earth we had enough room in our home for all the stuff a baby would require. Luckily, much of the extra stuff we had in our home was not necessary. Plus, a lot of the stuff in our home was salable, so we could make a little extra money to keep back for things the baby would need. The problem was that we wanted to take time to sell things right so we could get the most possible money out of them, but we didn't really have time to wait around with all that stuff in our home until we could sell it for a decent price on Craigslist or eBay.

So instead of trying to just Goodwill the stuff or sell it out of our home, we decided to rent a Pomona Self Storage unit and to sell it from there. It was really nice, actually, to have a central location for all our salable stuff – especially the big stuff like furniture. It meant that whenever someone wanted to buy something from Craigslist, we could meet them in a neutral location rather than our home. Plus, it was easier to box up the smaller stuff to be shipped off through eBay once we sold it.

We looked around for a while before we decided on our Pomona Self Storage location. There are a few in the area, and we wanted to make sure we were getting a good deal and would also be able to keep our stuff somewhere we felt comfortable with. Finally, we came across US Storage Centers Pomona Self Storage location, and it turned out to be the perfect option for our needs.

The Pomona Self Storage location by US Storage Centers had a lot of things going for it that made us choose it while we were getting ready for our baby. For one thing, it was close to our home but a little further into the midst of town than we were, which meant it would be a good place to meet Craigslist buyers for the big stuff we were getting rid of.

Another reason we chose this particular Pomona Self Storage location was that it was really easy to access. Because we could get in with our gate code any time during the location's extended gate hours, it was really easy to meet potential buyers there or to go box up stuff for eBay before or after work.

Sports & Storage - Pomona

More than Just Baseball Fans

For as long as I can remember, my family has been Dodgers fans. We're more than just baseball fans, though. For us, baseball means season tickets every year, and it means plenty of drives in to Los Angeles to see our team play. Because we're all die-hard Dodgers fans, we have a ton of baseball gear to deal with year in and year out. Even though we can't tailgate at Dodger Stadium, we still have a tailgate party nearby before almost every game that we go to, and that comes with a ton of gear – including shade tents and coolers and portable grills galore. We wouldn't be able to deal with all this stuff if it weren't for our Pomona Self Storage unit at a location called US Storage Centers.

We came up with the idea of renting a Pomona Self Storage unit a few years ago, when we were having trouble figuring out where to store all the tailgating gear we used every baseball season. Since we only use that stuff during baseball season, it seems silly to keep it at home, where it just takes up space that we feel could be better used for other things. However, we also didn't want to pay a fortune for a bigger storage unit than we needed.

So, we started checking out our options. We looked at several different storage facilities until we found the US Storage Centers Pomona Self Storage location. We chose this particular storage center for a few different reasons.

For one thing, the Pomona Self Storage center offered units that were perfectly sized for our needs. We didn't need a ton of extra space, but we did need to be able to store everything we used during baseball season – plus a few extra odds and ends that we had around our home and just wanted to get out of the way for the majority of the year. The unit that we chose allowed us to keep stuff organized without having to pay for extra square footage that we simply didn't need.
