Self Storage for Our Business Paperwork My husband and I started our own home business three years ago. It had always been a dream of ours to work from home doing woodworking, since he likes the carpentry aspect and I love the decorating aspect. We finally got the chance to take the leap when he lost his job, and we've never looked back since. Sure, there's been a steep learning curve, and it's been difficult to make it work financially at times, but we've succeeded in developing our business into something we can be proud of. One thing that we both had trouble with in starting our business, being creative types, was all the paperwork. There are seriously mounds of it. Paperwork for the creation of the business. Paperwork for the loans. Paperwork for the taxes. So much paperwork that I felt like it was coming out of our ears! Since I'm slightly more organized than my husband (On a scale of one to ten, he's a one and I'm a three, maybe), I got stuck with the job of working with and organizing all our business paperwork. It was a little ridiculous to begin with, especially considering that we didn't have room in either our home office or our workspace to store all that paperwork. About a year into the business building process, I finally found a paperwork organization solution that works for me: Pomona Self Storage. Not many business owners think of using someplace like a self storage unit for keeping and organizing their paperwork, but for us, it has worked wonders! I thought of the idea when talking with a friend who keeps some of her personal documents and such in a self storage unit so that she doesn't have to find space for them in her home. When I thought about how that could possibly work well for our business, I decided to give it a shot and to find a self storage location that would work well for us. That's when I came across US Storage Centers Pomona Self Storage. The location was perfect, since it was close to our home, and the prices were unbelievable. We didn't need a large storage unit, and one thing that I loved most about the US Storage Centers Pomona Self Storage location was that they offered smaller storage units that were well within our price range. The smaller units didn't cost much at all, and as a new business, we really needed to keep our expenses down. We had actually looked at renting a workspace away from home, which would have given us more room for storage of things like our business documents. But the Pomona Self Storage unit rental was much, much cheaper than that! |

Pomona – Storing My Stuff While Backpacking Europe I've dreamed about backpacking through Europe since I was just a kid, so when I finally got the chance, I jumped at it. It meant taking an extended leave of absence from my job, and it meant giving up my apartment for a while. It was totally going to be worth it, though! Before I could leave, though, I needed to figure out what to do with all the furniture in my apartment. I happened upon US Storage Centers Pomona Self Storage one day when I was driving around town, and I decided that it would be a good solution for me. So, I went in to check out the prices and such. I was really impressed with how clean and secure the facility was. Being gone for eight months meant I needed to make sure my things would be very secure in storage, as I didn't want to spend my entire backpacking trip worrying about the furniture and other items I'd left in storage! I even got to pick up my own lock to put on the unit, so I chose one you'd have to saw through because a bolt cutter couldn't get through it! One of the best things about the Pomona Self Storage location was that the manager was not only helpful but also knowledgeable about storage in general. You don't really think about it much, but putting items in storage is totally different from arranging them in your climate controlled apartment. I was really glad the manager of the self storage location was able to give me some great tips like these that would help my furniture stay in tip top shape while I was in Europe: 1. Get it off the ground. Have you ever noticed that a concrete garage floor can feel damp when the weather changes? Concrete tends to sweat during dramatic weather changes. Plus, you never know if water will happen to get into your unit, even though those at the US Storage Centers Pomona Self Storage location are as watertight as possible. The best way to protect furniture from leaching up water and becoming damaged is to get the furniture off the ground with either boards or packing pallets. 2. Leave some space. I had been pinching pennies for more than two years to be able to save up enough for my European backpacking trip, so I obviously wanted to be as economical as possible when it came to paying for a storage unit. The thing is that when it comes to storage, the smaller your unit is, the more economical it is. So I figured I would just pretty much pile all the furniture in there and hope for the best. The manager of the Pomona Self Storage location, though, showed me that it was actually a better idea to get a unit with just a bit more space. If the furniture is touching the wall and every piece is touching every other piece, the furniture can't dry out when the air is humid, which means mold and mildew can grow. It's cheaper in the long run to get a unit that's big enough to leave just a bit of wiggle room on the sides of the unit and in between the furnishings, instead. |
