Torrance Self Storage

The City of Torrance, California is located in the South Bay Region of Los Angeles County. This is the 12^th largest city in the State of California. Torrance is a coastal city that encompasses 20.5 square miles. The temperature is moderate year round with sea breezes, warm temperatures, and low humidity.

Based on the 2000 U.S. Census, the population is 137,946. 

The median age of Torrance residents is 38.7 years. The median household income in 2009 was $74,550.

Torrance is a prime business center and is strongly diverse in the industrial, commercial, and retail market. Torrance has the United States headquarters of two large Japanese automakers – American Honda Motors Company and Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A.   In addition to these two automakers, the other major employers in the area are Robinson Helicopter, Honeywell, Alcoa Fastening Systems, Hi Shear Corporation, L-3 Communications Electron Tech, Inc., ExxonMobil, Pelican Products, Alpine Electronics, Tanabe Racing Development, Speed Star Racing Wheels, Stoptech Brakes, Cosworth, Edelbrok, and the main bakery facility for King’s Hawaiian. There are several businesses that would benefit greatly with access to storage units for overflow of parts and products.

Torrance has two major hospitals located within the city limits – Torrance Memorial Medical Center and Little Company of Mary Hospital. A third hospital, Los Angeles County Department of Health Services Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is located just beyond the city limits.

Torrance is strategy located near major highways and freeways including I-110 (Harbor Freeway), I-405 (San Diego Freeway), S.R. 91 (Artesia Freeway), S.R. 107, S.R. 1. Torrance is located less than 30 minutes from both Long Beach Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. A general aviation airport Zamperini Field is located in Torrance as well; this airport does not serve commercial airlines. This area is served by Union Pacific and BSNF rail transportation.

El Camino College with student population of approximately 12,000 is located just outside the city limits. As with all college campuses, the need for secure storage facilities is very high since students tend to store their personal items when they depart during the summer months.

Like many other California cities that are located relatively close to the Los Angeles, Torrance has been used as the location for television series and movies. Production companies would benefit greatly having access to secure storage place to keep wardrobe, props, and equipment when filming is not underway.

The City of Torrance’s Economic Development Office offers economic incentives, business and professional development assistance, and streamlined permit and inspection process. There are four redevelopment projects underway – Industrial Development Project, Meadow Park, Skypark, and Downtown.

The Industrial Development Project Area consists of Torrance Center I and Torrance Center II which covers approximately 290 acres located on the east side and set aside for commercial, retail, office, and hotel development and the results are very impressive – the total property value in this development as of 2010 was $694 million.

The Meadow Park Redevelopment Project Area is also located on the east side of Torrance and is predominately a home to light industrial companies and office space.

Skypark Redevelopment Project area consists of Skypark Office & Medical Offices. This is one of the most valuable business parks in the city and encompasses approximately 30 acres.

The Downtown Redevelopment Project Area is adjacent to the Industrial Development Project Area. This area encompasses 88.5 acres and contains the core of the city. This area consists of commercial and residential complexes.

Torrance has four redevelopment projects underway with the purpose to bring new life to the area and attract commercial, industrial, and residential developments.   As these development projects progress the City of Torrance self storage will be in high demand as new businesses and residents seek storage units for business storage and personal storage.
