Storing My Vintage Sports Gear
I've never been the type of person to get rid of things easily. Some people call me a pack rat, but I just laugh, knowing that in the long run, I'll come out on top because of my tendency to keep things that are important to me. While I’m a bit better about not keeping things around that I really don't need any more, one thing that I do keep on hand is my vintage sports gear. Seriously, I have all sorts of things from when I was a kid, including a wooden Louisville Slugger bat that's almost as old as I am. My Vernon Self Storage unit by a company called US Storage Centers makes it possible for me to hang on to these things for my grandkids one of these days.
I'm not sure why sports gear ended up being the thing I collected most of. I guess it has something to do with the fact that I was one of those kids who played every sport all through high school, and even a bit in college. I have old football jerseys and helmets, old baseball gear, and even a few signed pieces from athletes who had yet to really make it big when they gave me their signatures. Over the years, I've just amassed this great collection of vintage sporting goods gear, much of which I actually used once upon a time.
Well, when I needed to downsize to a smaller place, I no longer had room to display all the antique sporting goods gear I had on hand, so I wasn't sure what to do with it. A few pieces that didn't mean much to me personally but were worth a bit of money, I sold. I went ahead and gave a few other pieces to my grandkids, who were pretty excited to get grandpa's old baseball glove or bat or whatnot. Heck, some of those pieces of equipment are so well-made that my grandkids actually still use them! They're not worth much money, but the sentimental value trumps everything.
Even after that, I was left with a bunch of athletic gear I just wasn't ready to part with yet but that wouldn't fit anywhere in my new place. A friend who was also an antiques collector suggested I look into storage units in the Vernon area.
At first, I was skeptical about getting a Vernon Self Storage unit. Wouldn't it be really expensive and leave my sometimes-valuable antiques very unsecured? Well, I wanted to check it out, anyway, since storage seemed like the only viable solution.
That's when I came across US Storage Centers Vernon Self Storage location. I was pleasantly surprised at both the pricing of the units and the security of the place, and I decided that a Vernon Self Storage unit was going to be just the thing to allow me to store my vintage sporting goods gear without having to worry about security or high costs.
I only needed a small unit, and the cost of the unit added hardly anything to my budget each month. Plus, I was totally comfortable leaving my vintage equipment in the unit because it had such great security. The security cameras around the location and the on-site manager deterred thieves from even trying to break in. Plus, all the units had individually alarmed doors, and I could buy my own sturdy combination lock to put on the door, so I didn't need to worry about my unit being broken into and cleaned out of all the valuable stuff that was in there. After all, I know some of the antique pieces I have are more sentimental than anything, but many of them are actually worth quite a bit of money!
So far, I've had a great experience with my Vernon Self Storage unit, and it's been nice to be able to keep my vintage equipment there. Slowly, I've been sorting through what I have left, continuing to sell a few pieces here and there or to give away pieces to people I know will really enjoy them. The US Storage Centers Vernon Self Storage location is easy to access, so I don't feel like I've just dumped my sports stuff into a black hole. I can go check it out or pull out a new piece to sell whenever I want, and I can access my unit at pretty much any time.
My Vernon Storage unit has been a great asset as I've downsized, as well. I actually upgraded to a slightly larger unit a few months after I moved, and I am able to keep the clutter down in my new place by putting a few boxes of extra things that I only need a couple of times a year in the storage unit along with my vintage sporting goods equipment.Enter your Zip Code, City or Address.
