Westminster, California is located in Orange County and encompasses 10.1 square miles.  This city is landlocked and bordered by Garden Grove on the north and east, Seal Beach on the west, and Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley on the south.

Westminster was the second colony that was developed in Orange County.  This city was founded in 1870 as a Presbyterian temperance colony by Reverend Lemuel Webber.  This group of farmers refused to grow grapes because they believed grapes were associated with alcohol.

A significant number of Vietnamese refugees settled in this area in the 1970s in a part of the city that is now officially known as Little Saigon.  The City of Westminster is made up of two neighborhoods – Little Saigon and Civic Center.

The 2009 population of Westminster was 89,547 which was 1.5% increase in population from 2000. The estimated median household income in 2009 was $58,253. The median age of Westminster residents in 2009 was 34.1 years. The estimated median house or condo value in 2009 was $462,100.  The gross median rent in 2009 was $1,256.  As of 2011, the cost of living in Westminster is 125.5.

The population density as of 2009 was high even for this area of the country with 8,857 people per square mile. The racial demographic of Westminster (2009) breakdown was 44.4% Asian, 28.9% White, 24.0% Hispanic, and 1.0% African American.

The top employers in Westminster (2009) were Westminster School District, Southern California Edison, Ito Farms, Kindred Hospital Westminster, City of Westminster, BE Aerospace, Wal-Mart, Sears, Westminster High School, and LBS Financial Credit Union.  Westminster has several public and private elementary schools, middles schools, and high schools located within the city limits, so no wonder the Westminster School District is the top employer in the area.

There are several colleges and universities located in Westminster proper including Asian American International Beauty College, Huntington College of Dental Technology, Kim Anh Academy of Beauty, Ivory Dental Technological College, Professional Bartenders, Pacific Beauty College of Westminster, Real Estate Institute USA, and Mereld Keys-Marine Training Programs.

Westminster is also located within less than 10 miles of several colleges and universities with a student enrollment of over 2000 students.  These colleges and universities include: Golden West College (Huntington), University of Phoenix-Southern California Campus (Fountain Valley), Coastline Community College (Fountain Valley), Cypress College (Cypress), Santa Ana College (Santa Ana), Bethesda Christian University (Anaheim), and California State University-Long Beach (Long Beach).

Communities that are physically located near institutes of higher education are in need of storage places and students move into the dorms, homes, and apartment when college is in session and then leave the area during summer break.  These students would benefit from access to nearby public storage to keep their personal items rather than haul them home to only haul them back when they resume classes.
