Rented or owned, home is home. You simply want to feel good and love where you live. The problem with renting, is that you have to deal with landlords, renting rules, regulations and contracts that often put a damper in your plans of turning the space you have, into a “monument” of personal style. ‘Monument’ – that’s good, right?! :) Today we’ve put together some ideas that will motivate and inspire different ways in which to make the most out of your space, and turn any rented home into your “own”. If you don’t want to spend money on gallons of paint and/or risk the landlord having a fit and charging you for repainting, think about bringing the pop of color to your furniture. Like in the image below. What I love about this is that it encourages the use of different types of chairs. When you need to purchase multiple chairs of the same kind, the price usually goes up. But in this instance, with 1 or 2 coats of paint, you can make each chair look like they’re part of the same family. A. You can save money on furniture by purchasing the chairs from consignment stores. B. You avoid having to paint any walls, by bringing the pops of color into the furniture design. Win-Win. #2. If painting furniture doesn’t speak to you, consider bringing the color through an accent rug, upholstery, throw pillows or couch blankets. #3. To make the most out of the space without committing to any nail-damage, consider using a versatile rolling shelf. This DIY industrial cabinet is a perfect example of what you can do yourself. #4. On the topic of saving space, you can re-purpose old pieces into practical day-to-day décor. Like the example below, where an old ladder was turned into fun shelving. #5. How about this for renter-friendly? Interior washi tape from Etsy. It’s perfect for anyone interested in instant gratification-type projects, plus it's easy to remove if you decide to change the color scheme or move out. #6. Use mirrors to add depth and make the space appear bigger in size. #7. Contact paper can also revamp stairs if you have any in your rental home, without risking any permanent markers. #8. Bring a touch of luxury with drapery. Hanging drapes is an apartment-approved way to instantly give your walls personality. Not only can you cover blank walls without the permanency of wallpaper or paint, but you can create the illusion of bigger windows in your home. #9. In rental homes, typically space is at a premium. If that is your case, think about investing in a large, one-stop-shop type of bookcase that will satisfy multiple storage needs. #10. Lighting can transform a room. Don’t limit your light source to hardwired ceiling fixtures. Think lamps - on tables, nightstands, floor lamps, etc. To you and your space, US Storage Centers
