You might hear this often: Reuse, Reduce, Recycle. You understand what each means and what it does, but how do YOU go about doing it? How can we reuse trash? Is it really that important? There are many benefits to the 3R’s but here’s one, many of us can relate to: Reusing what you’re about to throw away, is one of the easiest and most accessible ways to save money (while saving the environment at the same time too, of course). We’ve compiled some of our favorite ways to reuse, in hopes that it will inspire you to make a conscious effort and take a second look at the things you might consider trash-worthy and see if any of them can be reused. For more tips, ideas and inspiration, follow us on Facebook. #1. Put previously used dryer sheets, in with your clothes. It will also help if you place the clothes in storage, by keeping musty smells at bay. #2. Turn old pallets into shelving. #3. Use empty Kleenex tissue boxes to store plastic grocery bags. #4. The empty medicine bottle makes for great traveling storage containers. #5. Rather than throwing away old tee shirts, cut and use them as kitchen rags. #6. Spray paint empty bottles and reuse them as home décor elements. #7. If you keep old silica gel packets with your personal papers and important documents, you can protect them from moisture and mildew. #8. Tough containers (like oatmeal and coffee cans) can be used for storage. They can hold pens, brushes, etc. Use a label maker to know what’s inside. #9. Use egg cartons as storage space for the loose screws and bolts that are lying around loosely. #10. Use magazine covers and newspapers for gift wrapping. #11. A gallon jug of milk can be used to water plants without the hassle of dealing with a hose. You can also poke very small holes in the bottom of the jug, fill it with water and bury it as a slow irrigation method. #12. Junk mail envelopes can be reused as note papers or grocery lists.
