Your Alhambra Storage Unit Checklist

US Storage Centers’ Alhambra storage units come with alarms, locks, and the peace of mind. When you store your belongings with us, you are doing so with a knowing that your unit is secure behind our electronic gate. But there’s more to self-storage than just leaving your possessions in a storage unit. There’s a strategy to efficiently using the space you rent, and generally, using a self-storage unit is far more pleasant when you make it easy for yourself by labeling and organizing the boxes you have inside. Part of your possessions’ protection is also in your hands: delicate items need to be cushioned from impact, even if they are in boxes. Before you set up your Alhambra storage unit, make sure you’ve got all of the following.

Boxes

Boxes are probably the most obvious thing you’ll need for your storage unit. You can buy cardboard boxes directly from us too! A lot of liquor stores or other grocery outlets also have boxes available for free, so consider stopping by any of them to see if you can grab a few. If you have your items’ original boxes, these are the best way to store them in your unit.

Packing Peanuts or Bubble Wrap

Packing peanuts, bubble wrap, air pillows, and packing paper all serve the same purpose: to cushion delicate items from impact and protect them from breaking. Certain cushioning materials are better for specific items than others. For example, your glass vase is better off stuffed with and surrounded by packing paper or bubble wrap than peanuts.

Packing Tape

Once your items are in their boxes, use packing tape to seal them up. Make sure you’ve got a large roll at the ready.

Permanent Markers

Use permanent markers to label every box you store. This way, you’ll know how to safely stack your boxes – lighter boxes on top of heavier ones – and you’ll know exactly where all of your items are when you need to take them out.

Comfortable Shoes and Clothing

Don’t forget to dress comfortably on moving day. Pick closed-toe shoes that provide arch support and protection for your ankles. If you’re moving heavy materials in or out of your storage unit, consider wearing work boots with steel toes.

The clothing you choose should allow you to move comfortably. Do not wear tight or restrictive clothing. If you have long hair, consider tying it back to keep it out of your face. Wear long pants and sleeves to protect your arms and legs from cuts and scrapes while lifting and carrying heavy objects.

For Anything Else

Don’t stress if you show up to US Storage Centers’ Alhambra storage unit facility without all your packing and labeling supplies. Our team has got you covered. Just head into the office and tell our friendly staff members what you need and we’ll be happy to make sure you get it. You can also ask for moving supplies like carts and dollies to make stocking your storage unit easier.
