A typical day in the life of the 21st Century individual is chaotic to say the least. Work, an endless list of To-Do's, house chores, family time, a social calendar, charity work, kids, pets, etc... Our phones are attached to our hips, we can no longer properly function without calendar reminders, and life without Facebook is... well... about 800 'friends' lonelier. In a day and age when chaos is imminent, organization is necessary. Here are some of the absolute best tips that we know. And I think they'll help you. If you like them... and like us... please 'LIKE' us on Facebook, and join a community of folks who have things in common with you. Us for starters :) Have a great one!! 1. Keep all the booklets for your appliances and electronics in one folder, preferably an A-Z accordion style folder. Staple the purchase receipt to the inside of the booklet and then file it under the appropriate letter of the alphabet. Example: Refrigerator goes under R. By doing that, you insure that everybody in your household will be able to access the information at any time, without having to know the specific brand name. Plus, you'll have everything in one place. 2. Create routines. For everything — finances, grocery shopping, errands, laundry, etc. You can optimize your life if you do one thing at a time and make it a habit. 3. Store the plastic grocery bags in an empty tissue box. 4. Clean as you go. This is the best habit. Rather than spending hours doing everything at once, clean things as you go. Got the jeans dirty? Place them in the dirty bin rather than on the floor. Enjoyed a good dinner? Wash the dishes right away as opposed to letting them pile up. 5. Organize the clothes in your closed by use. I.e.: work, formal, casual, sport. From there sort them by color and sleeve shirt/pants length. 6. Use a shareable online calendar (I.e.: Google Calendar) with your spouse. It’s simple and fast, and can be accessed from anywhere. You can let the other person know of any work events, personal events, kid’s school events, birthdays, family get-togethers, errands, chores that need to be completed, etc. No more excuses :) 7. Maximize the vertical space. If you don't have enough space, create more by going “up.” Instead of having just a couple of shelves, take them up to the ceiling to really maximize the space. Store the items you won't use frequently on the higher shelves. 8. When you get home, empty out your pockets and put everything on a tray near the doorway. Keys, phone, credit cards, etc. How many times do you run around, running late, looking for one thing or another? No more! 9. The 3 greats to organization are: visibility, accessibility and flexibility. The containers in which you choose to store items should be transparent, or labeled properly, in order to easily identify its contents right away and save the time that's so precious. 10. Set up a mail station by the entryway. With this, you'll have a designated area for mail and envelopes, as opposed to throughout the house.
