You just got the keys to your new place and you cannot contain your excitement. In the back of your mind, however, there is a voice asking you where you are going to put everything you own. Whether you are moving into a smaller, two-bedroom apartment to a tiny house or an older home with small closets, there are plenty of scenarios that require maximizing space. Often, the solution is not as difficult as it seems. Items that you don't often use are best-suited for a storage unit at your local facility, and items that you will need regular access to can be kept at home by using the below tips to maximize your space. Utilize furniture for storage space. Look under your beds and your couches for extra storage space. You could even purchase furniture that doubles as storage space, like bed frames with under-the-bed drawers, nightstands with drawers, and ottomans with storage space inside of them. Use plastic containers that pack and slide neatly under beds and couches to keep things nice and neat. After those spaces are maxed out, consider buying identically-sized boxes and placing any unnecessary items in your unit. Utilize vertical space. You will have to start thinking outside of the box with this concept. In fact, you can get as creative as you want to. Bookshelves are the easiest and probably least creative way to utilize vertical space. Use baskets or tubs on the shelves to contain items that you do not necessarily want people to see. Attach hooks to walls to hang items on, including jackets, scarves, and other items you want to be able to grab quickly. You can also clear some of the space on top of your dresser with hooks. Hang your necklaces, earrings, and other items on the wall above your dresser. This will not only make it easier to find what you want in a moment’s time, but your jewelry will also look like a beautiful display if hung with a little creativity. The same principles apply to your storage unit. Many people forget that vertical space is also part of your storage. However, we do prohibit any altering of your storage unit, so stalling hooks with screws or other hardware won’t work as a space saving solution, though bookshelves, bins, and boxes are excellent ideas. Invest in a desk with drawers. The drawers of the desk will be perfect to use for keeping all of your important paperwork tidy, organized, and in one place. You can keep all of your office supplies in your desk, too. When it’s time to pay the bills or fill out paperwork, you will have a space where all of your home office items are in one place and organized – and you may eventually find that your organized desk will save you time and effort when you are hunting down important papers in the future. Desks are handy in storage units because their drawers are excellent places to store smaller items that may get lost. Desks are also useful for utilizing vertical space and organizing boxes. Redo that tiny closet. Tiny closets can seem useless. However, if you utilize the space to its fullest, you will find that you can do a lot more with a closet than you once thought there was. Add another hanging bar and lower shelves, hang an organizer over the door, and utilize the floor space for a hamper or shoe organizer. Anything too big or bulky can be kept in your storage unit. Get a storage unit. You may just need to keep some of your belongings in a storage unit to keep your smaller home clutter free.
