You have probably seen your share of tutorials and articles on how to organize and pack your self-storage unit—but odds are, you haven’t seen many guides on how to unpack your Tucson storage unit. Maybe it seems too simple. You might even think it’s a ridiculous thought since the answer could depend on how you packed your unit. Experience shows however, this is only partially correct. It actually depends on what you plan on doing with your items as you remove them. Plan #1 If you plan on making several trips with a light pickup and you don’t care about your time or the price of gas, then let’s be frank; it doesn’t matter how you empty out your storage unit. Grab whatever is in front and start loading up your truck. Rhyme and reason isn’t critical since you are just loading up and dropping off. Make sure you don’t overload your truck and make sure everything is tied down. Keep doing this over and over until your unit is empty. Plan #2 If you have a larger truck and you figure it will take two trips to haul your stuff away then you will need to do some planning. Assuming you have a box truck, here is how you do it; and it is the opposite of what you think. Typically, people want to take all of the big items first and then load smaller items and boxes on top. It seems like a good plan—at first. You soon realize, however, that there isn’t room under the couches or chairs for boxes and you can’t stack anything on bicycles or other awkward items. You will also have items you don’t want to walk on or climb over just to make sure you maximize the load. It could get dangerous. Instead, first load up all of your heavy boxes and create a base. On top or your heavy, (possibly book laden) boxes place your bigger boxes that can’t take as much weight. On top of this layer you can place your big items that aren’t too heavy or may be awkward. Fill your truck to the top with these items. Now look inside your storage unit and you will be surprised to see what little is left. It will only take a creative game of Tetris to load your truck with the remaining items on your second trip, and then you are finished. Plan #3 For this plan; start with a truck that could conceivably hold the entire contents of your unit. Don’t park directly in front of your storage unit because you will be pulling items from your unit and placing them several feet behind your truck in a staging area. First, take the items from your unit that are large and heavy that must be placed on the floor. Load these items closer to the back on each side of the truck, leaving an aisle down the middle. Then remove all medium weight, larger items from your storage unit and place these several feet behind your truck. You will look for every opportunity possible to insert these items. Next, remove all heavy small boxes and build a layer toward the front of the box. Place bigger, less sturdy boxes on top of those, and then add lighter awkward object on top. Work your way to the back of the truck in this manner, building a heavy bottom layer, topped with bigger, less sturdy boxes, and topped with awkward lighter items. Leave room close to the door for your most awkward items but make sure they don’t lean up against the back door. There you have it—three ways to unload your Tucson storage unit. You’re welcome.
