If you have never rented a storage unit before and you are now considering doing so, you probably have a lot of questions. Don't just assume the answers to these questions – find them. You have many good resources at your disposal, such as the internet and the staff of US Storage Centers' Orlando facility. Below are a few key points to keep in mind as you tour prospective facilities and speak with staff members at each. Not All Storage Facilities are Equal This is why you need to shop around for the right storage unit, rather than simply renting a unit in the first one you come across. Some facilities are not completely secure and others have structural damage that can allow moisture, wild animals, pollen, and debris into the units. Take the time to visit every prospective storage facility in person and speak with its staff. Do not rent a unit in a facility that is not well lit or seems like it is not secure. You Have the Responsibility to Obey the Facility's Rules The storage unit has the responsibility to keep your items clean and secure, but you have responsibilities too. These are outlined in each facility's list of rules for tenants. A few examples of the rules in place at US Storage Centers include: You may only access your unit during access hours. At our Orlando facility, these hours are 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; You may not keep any prohibited items, such as explosives and flammable items, in your unit; and You must make your payments by their due dates. If you break one of these rules, your lease may be voided. A Facility's Staff Works for your Benefit Never underestimate the value of a facility's staff. They are trained to help tenants fulfill their storage needs. If you have a question about your unit or the facility, ask a staff member. In addition to answering your questions, staff members at a storage facility can do the following: Help you pack your items; Help you determine which unit size is appropriate for you; and If you have any special needs, the staff should try to accommodate them, within reason. If you feel like the staff of a storage facility is not helpful, do not rent a unit there. You should feel comfortable trusting and working with the staff members tasked with protecting your items in your absence.
