Maybe organizing the home and keeping things more “tidy” was your New Year’s Resolution. Maybe it’s just a personal goal, or your spouse’s ultimatum. :D Whatever the reason may be, here you are, getting your groove on, when you realize 15 minutes later, that you’re bored, overwhelmed or “over it”. There’s too much to do, too little time, and suddenly a wave of anxiety dusts over you. What you need to do is make the cleaning/organizing process fun, entertaining, and allow for it to stimulate your creativity. The more fun and creative the time, the more success and follow through you’ll see. Follow these tips and mix them with the past organizing tips we’ve shared, that will help you also use your time wisely. #1. Listen to music. This is a must. You should listen to your favorite jams, in an upbeat genre. Select your favorite music station on your TV, or go to Pandora.com and create your free music station, based on the style of music or favorite artist. #2. Tackle one room at a time. This helps avoid chaos and confusion. Try to finish that room before moving to another; but if you get discouraged or bored, then move on to a different room. A change of the environment often changes the mindset. #3. As you’re going from room to room, first start by putting away or tossing the overall loose items. Then, go corner by corner. Focus will make wise use of your time. #4. Make the bed. The easiest organizing tip in a messy bedroom is to make the bed. Seriously! Sometimes that’s all it takes to make the room look less cluttered, if you don’t have too much time to spend tidying up. #5. Label everything. Even the clear containers. This is the perfect opportunity to great creative and have fun with labels. Find your favorite designs, background colors and fonts. Here’s a fun assortment of labels we found on Pinterest. #6. Use a timer. Set your timer at 15 minutes. When it buzzes, take a 3-5 minute break, drink some your favorite beverage, maybe go on the front porch and take a breath of fresh air. Just don’t start doing things that will pull you into a completely different activity, like watching TV or playing a game. Taking little breaks like this will help keep you from feeling overwhelmed. #7. Create a fun “Organizing To Do” list. Name the room and outline what needs to be accomplished. Mark off tasks as you go. Something as simple as this will give you the sense that you’re making progress and things are getting done. It will be a great pick me up in times when you get “over” doing the chore. #8. A little spray paint will go a long way. As you’re making your way back and forth to the trash bin, it will help to be visually stimulated and energized. Who enjoys looking at dirty trashcans repeatedly? So why not give it some personality? At least it will make you smile. #9. Have fun putting clothes away, by deciding which day of the week you’ll wear them. This is also a great idea for the kids. #10. Make use of your phone apps. List all your To Do’s, make your grocery list, etc. Remember the milk, Things and Evernote are some of our favorites. Now remember, the easiest way to maintain a clean home is by putting things away as you go.
