When you rent a storage unit in Orlando or elsewhere in the United States, you must sign a lease affirming that you agree with the facility's rules. Often, the lease includes a list of items that may not be kept in the units at the facility. This list can vary from facility to facility, so it is important that you read each lease carefully while you are shopping for the right storage facility for you. Items are often prohibited because they pose a health or safety risk for other items stored on the property and the people using the other units. Toxic Substances Any type of toxic substance cannot be stored in a storage unit at US Storage Centers. Examples of toxic substances include asbestos, arsenic, chlorine gas, snake venom, and hydrogen sulfide. These, as well as many other substances, are barred from being kept in our facilities' storage units because of the health risks they pose to all of our tenants and staff members. Flammable and Explosive Items Any items that are flammable, like gasoline, propane, and kerosene, may not be kept in your storage unit because of the fire hazard they pose. Similarly, explosive items are prohibited from being kept in our storage units. Illegal Items If something is illegal to own, it is illegal to keep in a storage unit. Examples of illegal items that you cannot keep in your storage unit include illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, and items made from endangered species and their byproducts. Animals Your storage unit is not a barn. Not only is it unethical to keep a live animal in your storage unit, it is against US Storage Center's policies for tenants. Animals can pose a health hazard to others on the property and potentially damage the unit. Food Items You also may not keep food items in your unit. This is because they can decompose and pose a health hazard to others on the property. As you can see from the entries on this list, many of the items that cannot be kept in US Storage Centers' units are prohibited because of the health risks they pose. For more information about banned items and clarification regarding an item you are not sure about, speak with a member of our staff or management team. What Can You Store? The list of things you CAN store in a storage unit is much longer than what you can’t store, which gives you a lot of flexibility where we can accommodate your needs. Many people store their furniture, extra clothing, or exercise equipment in their storage units because it makes their space less cluttered or because their home is too small to accommodate all of these belongings. Orlando residents specifically are known to store water equipment, such as boating and other water recreation items, or photos that they can keep in a climate-controlled environment to avoid the humidity and heat of the area. Whatever your needs are, you will find that US Storage Centers is very accommodating and will try to help you with whatever you need.
