Do you have something weird you need to store? Whether it’s a funky collection, a rare comic book, or something a little more traditional, you can keep it safe with self-storage in Glendale, AZ. When renting a self-storage unit, most people fill it with pretty normal stuff: old furniture, outdated clothing, childhood treasures, and the like. Other, perhaps misguided, people store some pretty strange stuff. These same folks often forget to make payments, and their carefully-stored things end up being auctioned to the highest bidder. Here are a few of the strangest things reportedly found in repossessed storage units. Money, and Lots of It In 2011, an unidentified man from San Jose, CA, struck gold—literally—when he won a repossessed storage unit in an auction. The unit, previously rented by an elderly woman, contained nearly half a million dollars in rare coins and gold bars. The man discovered his booty in a modern-day treasure chest: a plastic Rubbermaid container, that is. Stolen Comics 2011 was a big year for strange storage unit discoveries. That year, a long-lost copy of Action Comics #1 was recovered from a storage unit in California. The rare comic book, published in 1938, features the first appearance of Superman. The comic originally belonged to actor Nicolas Cage, who reported it stolen in 2000. Luckily for Cage, the thief who stole his comic book—then abandoned it in a storage unit—left it in great condition. After it recovered, the comic book was sold for more than 2 million dollars at auction. Remains of Loved Ones There is a widely-circulated story of a grandmother whose coffin was kept in a storage unit for 17 years, only to be auctioned off after the family failed to make payments. While most people don’t let their storage units double as cemeteries, many regulars at storage auctions report finding urns. Unfortunately, non-human remains turn end up in storage all too often—from goldfish to pythons, these units tend to be the final resting place for long-forgotten pets. Strange Collections On the storage unit auction show Storage Hunters, a buyer once discovered a unit full of hands. Not human hands, thankfully, but all varieties of hand paraphernalia, from a giant hand sculpture to doll hands to hand-themed posters. Other reports of strange collections include used tea bags and toolboxes full of crayons. Message brought to you by US Storage Centers in Glendale, AZ.
