When you are looking for things to do in the outside world, Chatsworth is one of the best places to go in the entire Los Angeles metro area. Situated near the outside of the area with the Santa Susana Mountains looming overhead, there are numerous opportunities for you to get out and enjoy the California sunshine during your free time. With the upper-middle demographic you find here, you will have no shortage of partners to help you enjoy the country as well. Here are some fantastic things to do on a nice weekend day. Great Hiking and Climbing The Santa Susana Mountains alone provide tremendous opportunities for hikers, rock climbers, and campers. These mountains are possibly the most untouched pieces of land you will find anywhere in Los Angeles County and you will be sure to enjoy yourself. One of the great pastimes for California hikers is the Santa Susana Stage Road. It used to be an old Native American hunting trail before it was taken over by Spanish missionaries. This trail connected Los Angeles to other destinations all over California and is something of the Western equivalent of the Appalachian Trail. The Stage Road begins here in Chatsworth and connects in both directions with Presidio of Monterey to the south and smaller missions further into the mountains. The trail is so important to local history that it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Native American History If you are not one for long distance walks, however, there are many other opportunities a bit closer to home. A popular destination in Los Angeles County is the Burro Flats Painted Cave, a vast subterranean gallery of ancient Native American art which has largely been connected to the Chumash people. Nearby is another piece of Native American history: the preserved village of Momonga found on Stoney Point. Equestrian Paradise Buried deeper inside the mountains is the small community of Twin Lakes. Not even incorporated, this hamlet is well-known to play host to a large equestrian facility which has over 1600 acres. If you do not own a horse, this open park has horse rentals available and also provides many jobs to horse enthusiasts all over the county. These are just a few things you can do for fun around Chatsworth, giving this quiet suburb vibrancy and life outside of just the living room.
