1. Jawbone Canyon OHV
The desert is one of those perfect spots to go off-roading and the Jawbone Canyon has tons of great trails to really let loose with your OHV. 2. Antelope Valley Indian Museums
Check out this quirky and completely passionate display of local artifacts that are part of a collection that was begun in 1928 by self-taught artist, Howard Arden Edwards. While some of the collection has been catalogued, some has not and the original (and imaginative) descriptions can still be found on display in the California Hall, the museum’s upper gallery.
3. The Civic Musical Road
This unique stretch of road was originally created for a Honda commercial back in 2008, but was paved over due to noise complaints. It’s now rebuilt on Avenue G and you’ve got to check it out. Drive 55 over the ridges and you’ll hear the “William Tell Overture” playing. That’s pretty cool.
4. Exotic Feline Breeding Compound
Dedicated to protecting and preserving endangered felines, you’ll be delighted with the different species boarded at the Cat House. These majestic creatures are absolutely amazing and are more accessible than zoos. You may find yourself as close as 5 feet away from one of these beasts, and can move through most exhibits at your own pace.
5. Aerospace Walk of Honor
Originally created to pay tribute to distinguished Edwards Air Force Base test pilots who went above and beyond their call of duty, it was concluded in 2009. The monuments naming these 100 men and women now line Lancaster BLVD in the city center and are truly a sight to see.
6. L.A. County Air Show in March
Get ready to be thrilled with the return of the Blue Angels to this annual show that is always exciting. The dates are 19-20 March and you’ll be able to see amazing aerial acrobatics, incredible jets and historic aircraft. You’re sure to be captivated by this display of aerial skill and beauty.
7. California Poppy Festival in April
The festival is in its 25th year of showing off our beautiful state flower. It takes place on 16 & 17 April, rain or shine, and is set up to coincide with Earth Day. The festival makes a wonderful day out and is a fantastic way to learn even more about what makes Lancaster so special.
8. BLVD. Farmers Market
Every Thursday, from 2-6pm in the winter and 4-9pm in the summer, you’ll discover some of the best local produce, artisan prepared foods and fun activities. It’s not just an open-air market, but also a way to connect with your neighbors, discover great fresh groceries, and get outside for a while.
9. Lancaster Museum of Art & History
This striking building houses a wonderful collection of post-war and contemporary fine art forms as well as art that reflects and comes from the Antelope Valley region. It is a conglomeration of local artists, great legendary masters and artifacts culled from the surrounding areas. It is a beautiful testament to this incredible desert area.
10. Milestones of Flight Air Museum
This simply wonderful museum is a great way to be reminded of just how much air fight has helped mold this desert city. Classic planes and jets are beautifully displayed for you to admire and learn more about as you walk through the exhibits. It’ll awaken that kid inside who always wanted to fly.
