1. Greystone Mansion
The actual mansion itself is off-limits unless reserved for an event, but there is plenty to see and admire on the gorgeous grounds of this mysterious estate. 2. The Chandelier Tree in Silverlake
What started as a spur of the moment thing, it has now grown into something whimsical and amazing. This simple tree features a variety of lighted chandeliers hanging from its branches and can be viewed any day once the sun goes down. It’s a startling reminder of how awe-inspiring simplicity and the unexpected can be.
3. Watch the Sunset from the Manhattan Beach Pier
Sometimes, you can hear the sun sizzle as it “hits” the water followed by a green flash. So the story goes and watching it sink down from the end of the pier is one of the most relaxing and peaceful ways to experience it. Listen to the waves and enjoy Mother Nature’s show.
4. Taste History at Olvera Street
The oldest street in Los Angeles is rich with history, sights, sounds and flavors. Vibrant colors stream from the different booths where street vendors sell cool Mexican souvenirs. Pick up a delicious treat from any one of the wonderful restaurants that line the marketplace and you’ll experience the history of this amazing city in a delicious way.
5. Check out Watts Towers
When Italian immigrant, Sam Rodia, began creating his open-air towers, he called them Nuestro Pueblo or “Our Town.” Now, years later, these extraordinary spires rise up into the air, glittering with the mosaics Rodia created from trash he found on the ground and are some of the most amazing pieces of public art in Los Angeles.
6. Go to the Original Farmer’s Market
At the corner of Fairfax Boulevard and 3rd street you’ll discover a Los Angeles landmark that is over 80 years old and still kicking. This daily open-air market features a sea of fresh produce booths; delicious prepared foods stands and live music on Thursdays and Fridays during the summer. It’s a little slice of L.A. that will enchant you.
7. Pacific Blue Air Sky Trike
Imagine flying through the air over the beaches in Los Angeles, but in something that reminds you of a flying 2-seater scooter. That’s what it’s like to ride a sky trike and it is a mind-blowing experience. You won’t believe how amazing the view is and will find yourself coming back for more.
8. The Catalina Express
On a clear day in Los Angeles, you can look out across the ocean and see Catalina Island, but instead of looking, jump on the ferry in Long Beach and ride on over to experience it first hand. There is hiking, fishing, scuba and snorkeling, horseback riding and kayaking, an incredible array of possibilities for enjoying this wonderful gem.
9. Cook Out (and Camp) at Dockweiler Beach
Just below the drop off at LAX is a stretch of beach where you can cookout and park your RV. It’s a great place to bring the family to play in the sand, watch the sun go down and grill some delicious food.
10. Hike the Santa Monica Mountains
Maybe nobody walks in L.A., but tons of people love to hike and this spot has a great many trails that are just right for climbing and exploring. There are so many great places to commune with nature here that you’ll be able to find a new place to try everyday.
