If you’re like most people, you’ve been negatively impacted by cancer in some way. It’s an awful disease that affects the lives of millions each year, including many of our own here at US Storage Centers.
Kure It was started shortly after the Chairman and Founder of US Storage Centers, Barry Hoeven, was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 1998. Upon receiving his diagnosis he discovered that rare cancers have little to no treatments available due to the lack of research and clinical trials. However, many treatments for more commonly-known cancers are often born out of research into rare types of cancer.
So, the quest began to create an organization with the sole mission of raising money for the best research programs throughout the country that hold great promise in developing new cures and treatments for rare cancers and beyond.
Kure It became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for research into rare cancers. Since 2007, this remarkable charity has taken the fight to cancer by raising and funding over $6,000,000 worth of research programs within some of the most prestigious hospitals throughout the country, including City of Hope, USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, and UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.
One novel way that US Storage Centers helps raise money for Kure It is through our program called ‘Round Up for Research’. This program gives our customers a chance to get involved by rounding up their self storage rent by only $.50, which is matched 100% by US Storage Centers. In fact, US Storage Centers will match just about any donation 100%, be it through Round Up for Research or a one-time gift. We know many of our customers either have had cancer or are in the midst of battling cancer, and this is our way of not only showing support but taking the fight to cancer – a fight we will win!
Get involved today by finding a US Storage Centers facility that participates in Round Up for Research, or visit kureit.org to learn more.
US Storage Centers co-founded Charity Storage, the official Charity Partner of the Self Storage Association, to help fund local and national charities by auctioning off gently used items at our participating locations. USSC customers, community members, and local businesses donate any unneeded items that are in good condition. US Storage Centers places those items in a designated storage unit, which is then auctioned off to the highest bidder. Quarterly, the proceeds are used to fund Kure It cancer research (20%), a local charity (60%), and the Self Storage Associations College fund (10%).
Ready to do a whole lot of good? All donations are tax-deductible so this is a great way for you to get involved and impact multiple charities. For more information visit CharityStorage.org
