Many people will agree that moving from one place to another is exhausting and often difficult, to say the least. It can also be quite expensive. At our Missouri City storage unit facility, our staff has put together a list of eight cheap moving hacks to help make your move less stressful and less expensive. Here is what we came up with: 1. Pack all of your essentials in an overnight bag. Once all of your belongings are relocated to your new place, you most likely won’t get it all unpacked that same day. By packing an overnight bag of all of your basic essentials, you won’t have to worry about where your hair brush, tooth brush, or a change of clothes can be located the next morning. 2. Use a clear plastic container to pack the items you will need immediately. You will likely need toilet paper, trash bags, paper towels, a box cutter, utensils to eat with, cookware, charger for your phone, and other small tools. Not only does the clear plastic bin differentiate itself from all of your other boxes, it also allows you to see what you have packed inside. 3. Use clothing for breakables. Forget spending precious money on bubble wrap. And newspaper can leave inky residue on your breakables. Simply use t-shirts or other soft clothing to wrap your breakable glasses, dishes, and china sets. 4. Use clean socks for stemware. Again, you don’t have to worry about bubble wrap or newspaper. Pack your stemware inside of clean socks to protect it. 5. Label boxes by room you want them to go in. Unpacking one room at a time makes the entire daunting process so much more achievable. Also, be sure to label on the side of the boxes, rather than the top – when they are stacked, you can still read what is in them. 6. Use cotton pads or balls to protect your cosmetics. The last thing any woman wants to find out is that her expensive powder cosmetics are broken – and the powder is everywhere inside of the box. Place a cotton ball or pad inside of the cosmetic container to add extra cushion. 7. Use saran wrap to secure toiletries. Simply open any bottle of shampoo, conditioner, face oil, etc. and place saran wrap over the top of the container. Screw the cap back onto the bottle. This will ensure you won’t have any leakage during the move – it’s like putting the safety seal back on the container. 8. Stack plates in the box vertically. Pretend your plates are old records and line them up in the box, standing up, vertically, with something soft in between each one. They will be less likely to break stacked like this.
