You have been helping put together weddings since you were a teen-ager. You have a knack for it. After putting together a dozen weddings for family and friends, you decide that it is time to get paid for your skills. You don't plan super-posh expensive weddings, you specialize in nice inexpensive weddings; there is a difference. You learn quickly where the money is, you don’t rent chairs, tables, and decorations for the weddings you prepare. You own the chairs, tables, cake stand, arches, ribbons, runners, centerpieces, tablecloths, punch bowls, chocolate fountains, cut-glass cups, goblets, and even a portable organ for weddings on the beach or in the hills. And you are just getting started. The Storage Company Is Your Secret Weapon If the above is you, you need two more items to make your wedding business a breeze. First, find a good used box truck. Paint the box in wedding colors with your name and logo. Next, you will need a Carson storage unit from The Storage Company. The 8’ X 20’ drive up unit is about the right size at first. The first thing you will notice is how clean your unit is when you open the door. We mention this because typically many of the items you will be moving in and out on a regular basis are white. You probably won’t be stacking your white table clothes on the floor but it’s nice to know that you almost could. You will want to organize your unit for easy access and uncomplicated loading and unloading of items, taking into consideration that not every wedding will need the same items. You will also be adding to your collection with every wedding when each bride insists on a specific this or that. Storage Strategies If your specialty is smaller weddings, 100-150 chairs will be plenty to have on hand. You might consider always keeping at least 100 chairs on your truck, utilizing the box on your truck as extra storage. If you don’t have room to store your truck at your home you can even keep it in our RV parking. That would make us your one stop to pick up all of your items. Your chairs would always be included on the first trip to the wedding site and be included on the last load after the party is over. After a while, you will have a routine for setting up and taking down. Your storage unit will be part of the strategy. It is, after all, your own warehouse for your business. You will need to hire some helpers who can help and be at your beck and call. A 100-person wedding is at least a 4-person job. None of you will need gym memberships if you do one or two weddings a week either. Good Business As business models go, this one is hard to beat. With a used truck, the above items, a storage unit from The Storage Company, and an iPhone you have yourself a profitable little venture.
