Konichiwa, gaijinn! Welcome to Torrance, where the beaches are clean and the climate is lovely. As much as that sounds like a travel brochure, it actually couldn’t be closer to the truth. Of all the hundreds of suburbs located in the Los Angeles metro area, Torrance is easily one of the best. So if you are a visitor here, or even thinking about moving, you will definitely be in for a pleasant stay. History of the Town Originally populated by the Tongva tribe, which made its living off of fishing in the Pacific Ocean, the Spanish arrival signaled the beginning of Torrance. Issued to Juan Jose Dominguez by the king of Spain himself, the area remained mostly rural through Spanish, Mexican, and much of American rule up until the early 20th century when the area finally started to be developed as an industrial-residential suburb of Los Angeles. The planned community was completed in 1912 and incorporated in 1921. Torrance has survived numerous statewide and national recessions, as well as a local economic slowdown following the end of WWII, and today is one of the most prosperous communities in the country. The schools are some of the best in the area and a low crime rate mean this community of 145,438 is perfect for settling a family. Culture and History Aplenty But Torrance is far more exciting for many other reasons. It is one of the most multicultural cities in the country with majority-minorities composed of Greeks, Italians, Portuguese, and Mexicans being found here. Torrance also has the second-highest population of Japanese-Americans in the country, making it the place to be with you are interested in eastern culture. There is a great deal of local history as well, with many of the houses built as a part of the original planned community. Truly, Torrance is a suburb to be envied. We certainly love it. We know you will, too. Message brought to you by US Storage Centers in Torrance, CA. US Storage Centers 735 West Carson Street Torrance, CA 90502 (424) 233-0664
