Has your family remarked that you have enough supplies to open up your own craft store? Sometimes well-intending family members even foolishly suggest that crafters get rid of the stuff they “aren’t using.” However, you are using it… every last bit of it. Maybe not on this project and probably not on the next one, but you ARE going to use it and everyone knows supplies for DIY aren’t cheap. Scrapbook paper by itself can go for as much as a dollar per sheet, so it’s certainly worth the effort to preserve what you have and keep it for later projects. Thankfully, you can free up space at home and have easy access to your craft supplies by keeping it in a Las Vegas storage facility. Here are a few tips to help you get started. 1. Choose the Right Space If you’re an avid crafter, be sure to pick a unit that’s large enough to hold all your supplies and give you room to move around inside. You’ll probably be in and out frequently, so you’ll need walking space and a high level of organization. DIY supplies are highly-sensitive to environmental factors, so be sure to get a climate-controlled room to further protect your items. 2. Organize by Project or Craft Type Packing up unfinished work is not a sign of defeat. However, you might bury yours and forget about it if you don’t keep everything you need to complete it boxed with it. Once you’ve gathered everything, place all the items inside a larger box, label it, and keep it near the front of your unit so it jumps out at you every time you visit. By the same token, try to keep all materials for similar projects together. It makes it easier to grab what you need and quickly depart, before you make eye contact with your unfinished project box. 3. Take Care with Paper It’s best to store paper crafts horizontally to avoid warping and prevent damage. Consider investing in a clear bin with shallow drawers or other sealable container to protect items from dust. If you must store items in a box, be careful not to overload it- paper is heavy! You’ll also want to keep your box up off the floor. 4. Roll Your Fabric Hold onto cardboard rolls from wrapping paper and paper towel. They provide a free and tidy way to stow fabric. You can also use a specialty wrapping paper bin or other clear vertical holder to minimize the space it takes up, while making pieces easy to grab and go. This reduces the amount of time your unfinished project box can make sad faces at you, so you’ll feel less guilt about leaving it behind. Although you can’t affix items to the walls, you can bring in furniture and dedicated storage pieces to keep your craft supplies orderly.
