If you have items that you need to store, you probably know that you need to rent a storage unit. But you might not know which size unit is right for you. A storage unit is not the same as a room in your home. It doesn’t have to be arranged to allow easy movement throughout or use of the items stored inside it. Determining the right unit size for your needs is not always easy. Fortunately, every US Storage Centers facility is staffed with a team of experienced storage experts who can help you make this determination. Work with the staff and use the following guidelines to determine the right storage unit size for you. Use Our Published Guidelines On our website, we publish a list of the available units at each facility. Make use of this list to make your decision about which unit to rent. Our lists display each unit’s dimensions as well as a comparable room size to give you a better sense of how much space each unit truly provides. Think in Terms of Rooms, but Not How you Normally Use Rooms Use our published guidelines to compare our storage units to similarly sized rooms. For example, our 10 foot by 10 foot unit is similar in size to an average bedroom. You can fit a bed, a dresser or two, and perhaps a few other things into an average bedroom – if you’re using it as a functional bedroom. When you’re using that same size as a storage unit, you can fit a whole lot more by strategically stacking boxes and rotating your furniture to fit the allotted space. Take Lots of Measurements Do not simply rely on your sense of dimension to determine if an item will fit into a storage unit. Get out a tape measure and measure each piece you plan to store. Keep a notebook with your measurements and a few diagrams of how each item will fit into the unit. Then, measure your unit and if you have it, your shelving, and determine how you can fit your items into the unit. Let Our Staff Help You Our staff members are trained to help tenants and prospective tenants make the most of their storage experiences.
