Colorado Springs is lucky. We have four distinct seasons—well two anyway. One is warm, almost hot and the other is cold, sometimes bitter cold. We outfit our homes and yards for the two main seasons differently. During the summer we might have our above ground pool taking up half of our backyard and in the winter, it is time to get out the trampoline so we can jump off our roof or a tall step ladder to the trampoline and catapult ourselves into a pile of soft snow. And if we miss the pile, it makes for good material for America’s Funniest Videos. Go with the seasons It is difficult to keep all the seasons around the house; like where do you store a 4’ deep above ground pool during the winter? We definitely want to save our garage for the cars. Nobody wants to dig out a car first thing in the morning when we have a two-car garage. That’s where American Mini Storage comes in. It is our all-season storage facility. Why move to a bigger house, with a bigger garage, just to store all of our stuff when we there is additional space down the street. Winter It’s nice during winter to not be tripping over a frozen pool in the garage. You don’t want to leave it up all winter because it ruins the plastic. Other items you might want to keep warm during the winter are your lawnmower and other power yard tools. If you keep your lawnmower in the cold all winter, it takes 3 hours to get it started again in the spring. You can also keep all of your camping gear safe, organized, and out of the way, unless you like heading to the mountains in the dead of winter to build snow caves and enjoy hot chocolate by the fire. You probably don’t do a lot of boating during the winter, so that little fishing boat stores well in our RV parking. Your kayaks, paddles, and life vests can fit nicely in your storage unit. Unless you are one of those Coloradans that love to take pictures of your deck furniture under two feet of snow and post it to the Internet, deck furniture fares well in your storage unit. When the weather clears up, bring it out to welcome the spring. Summer Even though the snow-blower is a godsend in the winter, it is sleeping dinosaur during the summer; hard to move, in the way, and “why do we have this thing?” Take it away to the safety of your storage unit, now with freed up space from your swimming pool, lawn mower, and other summer storage. It’s also time to unplug all of your electric space heaters and take them in for storage as well. Winter clothing can take over your house when it is cold outside. Snowsuits, ski gear, boots, parkas, gloves, mittens, not only take up a lot of closet space, they clog every entry point to your home. It is time to climb out from under the pile of protective gear and take them in for storage. You won’t need them for another 6 months. Even though it seems backward, we store our trampoline in the summer. Having the pool and the trampoline in the backyard at the same time is too crowded. Besides, a trampoline next to a shallow pool is just an accident waiting to happen. With our storage unit at American Mini Storage, we do the seasons well here. The family is accustomed to the bi-annual ritual now; the official changing of the seasons.
